Hey guys n gals. I'm curious, what is your most loved and hated string companies and why? What style of music do you use them for? What size do you prefer?

I myself don't have any bias in a particular company. I've played everything over the years from Blue Steel, GHS boomers, D'addario, Dean Markley, various kinds of DR strings and others I can't remember. If I had to lean towards one, at the moment Im using DR Hi-Beam and the Neons. I use 10-46 in most cases.
 
Most loved : Elixer - They last more than one or 2 rehearsals. I think the set on my main guitar is over a month old and still sound pretty good.

Honorable mention : DR - If there was no Elixer I would still be using these. I dig the sound and they last.

Most hated : D'addario - When I was using these I was changing my string all the fucking time. And I hate changing strings. They sound great and didn't have any breaking issues. It's just they rust really quick on me.

Most loved is Elixir. Although nowadays, they're generally too damn high...not a lot of sales, so I'm mostly using D'Addario now which are great.

Most hated would be Ernie Ball out of the ones I've tried in the poll. They seem to go dead very quickly....shit strings IMO.
 
I don't really have a favourite for electric, but Elixir for acoustic that's for sure.
 
D'Addario XL for electrics are my standby, been using them for over 20 years now.

Can't stand Ernie Balls. One night a long time ago I was changing strings before a gig and was out of D'Addarios. I used a package of EB Slinkys I had stuffed in my guitar case. Finished changing strings, hit a chord unplugged, and my wife yelled from the other room that my guitar sounded like crap and asked what I'd done.

Haven't used EB's since then.

Other than "stock" strings that come on new guitars, I've only used two types of strings. From 1986 until the late 90s, I used Ernie Ball and since then I've used D'Addario.

I'm kind of a freak with strings because I barely break them. When I traded someone guitars on the forum and got my Charvel, I kept his strings on there for about a year until one of the strings finally broke. :) I have a light playing style and like the sound of broken-in strings. I hate squeaking strings.
 
I haven't tried all of the strings in the poll. I used D'addario for years but lately they weren't lasting quite as long for me. I tried a number of brands and settled on Dunlops, they're reasonably priced and hold up well for me. GHS Boomers weren't too bad either. I tried Ernie Balls about 10 years ago and they didn't hold up well for me at all, they were pretty cruddy after a couple sets.
 
I use balanced tension D'Addarios and I have had no problems with them
 
My fave string is Rotosound, but they're hard to come by locally so I always have to order online. My backup go to is Ernie Ball hybrid slinky.
 
Favorite is d'addario followed closely by curt mangan.

Least favorite is Ernie ball, had wear out and breakage issues. Not a fan of dr anymore, intonation issues are common with them.
 
Been using Ernie Balls for ever but lately I grew tired of settling for the gauges till I found Daddario 11-56. Now that's a size I love especially the third string witch is a 19 instead of a damn 22 or 24. That's too big for that 3rd.

I too don't change strings often, they can last me a year and I pick hard too.

Most loved would be Elixer for acoustic, and Dean Markley for electric, they last me for a while and I'm happy with the sound and tension.
Most hated would be Ernie Ball. I don't have a problem with the sound, they just feel too loose to me tension wise and the high E never lasts me more than a day or two even though I usually use 10s or 11s.
 
I use D'Addarrio. Sound fine, cost less then $4 a pack, and last long enough.

Cant stand DR. Intonation issues are unacceptable...
 
The one that hangs between my girlfriend's legs once a month.
 
I have been using D'Addarrio for easily 10 years with no issues, Ernie balls whilst sounding really good last about 2 days till they loose that acoustic ring and I regularly have strings break during the initial tune up...

Recently been using Dunlop Heavy Core on my 7's and really liking them, great tension using drop tunings and last very well. reccomended.
