We didn't have this shit either.
The closure of mental institutions was a massive contributor to our current homeless problem.

Yup. I live in the sticks and been noticing them at the beach the last few years. Crime is still low but you never know when a crazy will snap so it can put a damper on things.

Can I blame democrats?

Fuck, only $2k? I've spent way more on camping
The tent is cheap, the land cost the big money.

When they were allowing freeway camping in Austin I was tempted to buy a wall tent at cabelas and get some goats and go all the way with it. Graze my animals on the roadside and have a glampsite right under the interstate. I would've been untouchable for a few minutes but I think the sight of the goats in downtown Austin would've really upset a few apple carts even though the bleeding hearts in the city were all about letting the homeless sleep rough anywhere they pleased when it was trendy. Once they sleep in your neighborhood it changes so now the approach seems a little more hard nosed.

I believe it was Reagan that did it, but Reagan would be considered left by the MAGA's so yeah, why not :ROFLMAO:

Camping, and outdoors has turned into a such a big industry. So much cool shit to buy, that's why it gets expensive.
I have a 20ft RV, and I overland in my Xterra. I would like to trade the RV for a smaller teardrop.

i'll take the canvas wall tent and the cast iron gear for the permanent campsite over an RV myself. I can pack all that in my truck and more or less disappear for the next few years. Buy property, build a nice deck, set the wall tent up on it. Toss some nice rugs in there, a woodstove, and a cot and you got some pretty comfortable living for not too much money. If I can get the campsite up out of the mud I have no problem roughing it long term. There is a certain enjoyment in it.

I think most actually worship him even though Nixon and him helped kickoff the problems we have today.

:ROFLMAO: Sorry man but that ain't camping. If you want people 10 feet away you might as well stay at home. Camping is a mile or 3 hike with a canoe and a good paddle and maybe some more walking to get to a good spot. So nice and quiet. :inlove:

Bruh, I overland in the middle of nowhere in my Xterra, in the back of it, or it has an awning with a tent the zips into it.

Also the RV I can dry camp with it's onboard tanks, and solar. So no need for hook ups next to people.

Those Xterra's are one of the few Nissans that are actually a really great ride, a good deal, and a reliable workhorse. It sounds like you go a killer rig for going out to terlingua.

Yeah, the X was so underrated. Crazy people spend so much on 4runners, when the Xterra was major capable for much less.

I guess it's the luxury interior of the 4runners they want :jerkit:

Toyota makes a great car but ever since my dad's '80 corolla they still haven't improved their seats. Like sitting on 3/4" plywood. My bro bought a 4 runner, nice truck, no 4wd though! And PRICEY. Even he thinks the seats are lousy. My wife likes wranglers so we've had a few in the last 15 years. They have their pluses and minuses but I can access and maintain everything myself. on a dirt driveway. The seats on the JK we got now are nice and the Fox aftermarket shocks that came with it make it ride like a 4x4 cadillac. It cruises 75mph without much fuss which is more than I can say for the last one.

Some years ago I worked at a lube shop next to a tire and mechanic shop part time. I saw what survived the rigors of our finely maintained Texas roadways. The Xterra's took some pretty serious negligence from a couple of owners I knew that were regulars. Couple others treated it like their pride and joy. Sweet rig. A tough truck. The Xterra is as good or better than a Wrangler IMO I just like the aftermarket for the wrangler. It's like a harley, so much cool stuff available and for Jeep a whole lot cheaper than the 4runner aftermarket. When we traded in our last jeep I even made the dealer swap all my aftermarket parts onto the new rig, lol. The guy I deal with over there has been great to me despite butting heads on the first deal, lol.

Actually their policies were very similar . Trump was never right wing , a lifelong liberal until the mid 90's . It's why half of Trumps base are old school democrats . Trump jumped ship when the democrats went full blown communist .

Agree. When I pass a “chain” campground and see shoulder to shoulder RVs packed in tight, I think “yeah, getting away from it all “.

I've pretty much done it all. Solo survival all the way up to taking my family in a 29ft Dutchman to Colorado for 2 weeks. But somewhere in the middle is what I enjoy now. We got rid of the camper when we got a cabin. But I've had many trips just sleeping in my suburban in the middle of nowhere.

I enjoy watching the fake ass trapped in a blizzard or thunderstorm videos on YouTube. Or the people building the different shelters also. They all seem to be Eastern European. Some of the Japanese ones are next level. Inflatable tents and such. Pretty cool. I can’t tell you how many times I slept out when I was a kid. Especially when I joined the bsa….

did camping when I was younger, including roadtrips on my old Harley in my 20s, camping off the side of the road, parks, etc. get a motel to shower and wash clothes.

my retirement plan includes a small oceangoing sailboat I can singlehand (sail solo). It will be like camping, just on the ocean, deserted coves, beaches and islands. I plan to sail part of each year in the Keys, Bahamas and eventually further into the Caribbean

Great idea. My NJ brother had a sailboat, about 30 footer, that he sailed up & down the east coast and loved it. I think he got too old for it.
