I know these forums are probably the wrong place for this. Considering some of you may have 20 - 50 amps or more  .

At what point do you say ok, I don't need all of this. I will probably never even turn half of this on anymore and just sell everything except the bare minimum?

I almost never sell if I haven't identified something else I want, so I usually keep things for a long time without using. I think of it as having a nice fat belly, just stored up energy for those days when I need it. :)

Just when I rev up ready to purge some gear....
I turn around and buy another amp.

I only have 1 thing to sell and no one wants it, so I'll have to trade it in at Guitar Center and take the hit.

This. Except now when I want something, it would entail selling my Wizard. Which won't happen.
:D

I've actually been going through a minor purge. For me it comes down to time, space, and liquidity of money.

I'm starting grad school (and about to be taking massive loans to do it), have a wife/kid and full time job, and just don't have as much time to play anymore, let alone with a drummer to justify the volume. I've got my three remaining heads, but not thinking at all about buying more. I may end up selling one of them, even. Most of my playing is through my Helix and computer speakers these days anyway. I wish I still played in bands but the career and family just have to take priority now.

Pretty similar thing here, hence the thread. I have some killer items that have not been touched in months. Possibly would never use again other than a random weekend here and there if I have the house to myself.

Only thing I don’t sell is my GT cause sentimental value.

Everything else, if I haven’t touched it in a month it’s outta here.

Holdover from stacking 6 amps, an AxeFxII, and 15 guitars. I don’t have the space or the time. I’m down to a Kemper and 2 guitars with one coming in, if it’s good one of the others will be sold.

Want to buy my amp? :D

Haha

Already have it, plus 50 more.

Buy a Kemper sir!

I have yet to hear a Kemper profile that can capture the Uberschall correctly.

But I would love a kemper. :) That could solve all of my problems maybe.

I just sold 5k worth of stuff on reverb.

How do you feel about it now? Real question, this is serious business. I know I will regret everything but meh, if they are not getting the use they deserve.

I'm feeling pretty good actually. I sold my 33 pedal that I really liked but just never really used. I'm gonna miss it but I got $500 for it so that helps a little. Sold my satan 50, played it a few times only. The big thing I sold was all my Universal audio stuff. I paid too much for all of that and used maybe 2 plugins from it. I was thinking about selling it for a while and finally said fuck it. Oh well, easy come easy go right.

I’ve sold about half my stuff in the last year or so or traded for stuff I could use right now. I don’t keep anything that’s not for use in a project anymore. Had about six heads last year and a few cabs, and I’m down to the Evh for my metal project and my plexi reissue for rock stuff. If I get where I don’t have any projects I will sell all heads and cabs, as I just use bias at home through monitors for 90% of what I write. I have other hobbies that could use that money if I finally get where I’m not playing in a band/project.

I've stuck to a 1 in the door, 1 goes out philosophy. I don't want that much cash tied up in my gear anymore so I try to stick to 1 amp, 1 cab and a few guitars that cover all bases. Selling things can be tricky though, cause only when its gone do you realize how much you liked that particular piece of gear.

Another kind of where I am at reply. I have been in bands on and off most of my life. Some did pretty well IMO for what it was but for where I live now, the type of music I am into, my age and just simply the lack of talent around here my band days are pretty much numbered.

The only problems are that I did this before when I had my son. Sold everything off, ended up getting into a band and buying 5x as much shit as I had before. The other problem is that I love all of my gear. Even if I rarely use it all of it just sounds amazing.

I feel I am too old to be dicking around with a band but at the same time if I were to find the right situation down the road...........Kind of why i want a Kemper or a Helix.

Same. I turned 50 last month, have always been super active in the music scene, but the last couple years has been iffy if it’s gonna be my last. The way technology has been with gear the last couple years, I could see me pretty easily getting a mooer preamp and a micro poweramp as a recording tool and a live rig....keep one of my old cabs around just in case....
