Seriously, i feel like the guy has ruined music for me. Yesterday i threw in a Tool CD, i got bored quick and put Terria back in the CD. I tried to listen to some Opeth, but shut that off and threw in Ocean Machine. Tried to listen to some Dream Theater.....   Ziltoid FTW

So I'm hooked, and i need help because EVERYTHING that's not Townsend sucks to me.

Its hard to beat true genius... I remember hearing Devy for the first time in 1997 when I bought city, I was pretty young then but was blown away by the record. still listen to it now. By the time I picked Accelerated Evolution I couldn't believe the amount of music and varying styles he had brewing inside of him. I'm very glad that Devin has finally reached a larger audience and I'm sure will continue to do so, his talent deserves to be heard and appreciated.

he has an extensive catalog and every record is worth listening to.

:rawk:

I'm just pissed that we missed him in NYC :bash:

yeah you are!

I went to the BTBAM, DTP , Cynic gig in Philly.

one word: epic!

Welcome to my world Dan! I used to be a pretty big Dream Theater fanboy but I hardly listen to them anymore (I will be selling my EBMM Petrucci in the next month or two). It isn't that I dislike them. Devin is playing/writing the kind of music I want to listen to. I will say that I will always be a Satriani fanboy regardless of how contrived his music is.

See, I've tried to like his music and his bands. Seen them is concert twice and I don't know? The music is pretty good not blown away but good and different.

Devin's singing just sounds Hokey!!!  I know he's a good musician and the music isn't bad either. But with the Skullet and the hokey singing parts I don't know I just don't get it.

His death growls and screams sounds fine its just the singing parts that leave me like WTF?

The Skullet is gone since the end of SYL Devy is now sporting the streamlined bald look. The skullet was always tongue in cheek anyway...

Yeah I knew the skullet was gone now, but it just added to the hokeyness

I guess he's singing is kinda like Zappa with a Comical element to it. Unknown Hinson :)

If were talking comical have you checked out ziltoid?

I feel the same way! He ruined most hard rock and metal for me. However, I'm REALLY digging this guy lately. His recordings are amazing considering the cheap stuff he's using.

Even without vocals, I don't get bored of his tunes!

:D   :D Devin needs a show on Adult Swim!!!

I think he was the voice of the "banana sticker" psychiatrist in a Metalocalypse episode.

It's a start right? :)

and yep, Devin is the man. Too talented for his own good.

The skullette was epic, nothing brought the metal like that skullette flying around while singing Deadhead

Metal aint no beauty contest kids

It is the well rounded music aspect that I respect the most about DT, he can do many styles VERY well.

Tracks like "Deadhead" are my fave Devin stuff. It's great to hear such restraint in the guitar parts when you know the guy could just bring the fretboard fury if he wanted to.
Also, am I the only one that really dug Ki?

Epic would be a great way to describe a night like that! I wish he would come to Portland!

Only time I ever heard him was with Vai a hundred years ago.....but I'm curious so where should I start? What album is a good entry point?
