No offense man but for $60 + another $5 for hardware " that can be bought for cheaper" they should mount right in without any hassle..

Jim's handles do drop right in, but you do have to remove the old POS rivets.

If you think that is hassle, just wait until you try and fit the other ones.

I did and I even counter sunk them with a router

Yeah that is much easier than drilling out 6 rivets.

Unless the OP has the tools and skills, a drop in set is well worth the $65.

Metal speaker handles are about $6 each....Google it
Direct replacements for Marshalls etc....

How about if he doesnt even have a drill to do the scumback handles?

You can train your dog to install these.....
If a guitarist can't replace a simple handle, then that is a sad situation

Those are the wrong sized handles, they're 2 inches too short.

Lots of the Marshall cabs used wood screws, some used rivets. Worst case scenario is you punch/drill out the rivets, tap in the 10/32 T-nuts, and you could hand tighten the machine screws with a regular Phillips screwdriver.

As for buying handles cheaper, sure, you can buy the others cheaper. They aren't made with metal that's as thick, the paint scratches easily vs my baked on finish, and they don't fit without using a jig saw in most cases (I've never seen any that did fit the old bolt holes, BTW). So dowel up the old mounting holes, let it set/dry for a day, then drill out the cheaper handles bolt hole pattern, and put them in.

Not sure how fast you are with a drill, but pulling a back panel, disonnecting, or unsoldering the speakers, taking the top two speakers out so your jig saw/router/whatever clears, then jig sawing the cab, redrilling the mounting holes and then cleaning up before you put on the cheaper handles is going to take a bit more time than most would want to spend on replacing handles. I guess it all comes down to what your time is worth, or isn't, and how much you labor you want to put into it. If it takes you 4-5 hours to swap the cheaper handles, I think that's more than the difference (even at minimum wage) of cost between the cheap handles and mine.

I certainly have done it the hard way, many times. Punching out 12 rivets, or drilling them out with a 1/4" drill isn't too tough. And if you have wood screws (as many Marshall cabs did, 800/900's, etc), then it's just a Phillips screwdriver you can use by hand.

As for them not being a direct bolt in, I guess you forgot that once you pop a rivet you have to replace it in most cases, so it's going to be up to the fastener used on your cab previously that dictates that. So in that case NO handle is a direct bolt in, right? ;)

As for the quality/fit/finish/etc of my handles, they are much better than anything I've seen on the market. If you'd seen them in person, you'd know that, too. I guess you haven't.

But hey, like I said, this was just for the OP's benefit. My handles are one option if you want that type of old school look with the chrome grab bar, quality, fit and function, but there are certainly cheaper options if none of the benefits I've outlined make sense to you.

By all means, get out the jigsaw! :D

LOL, a man defined by who sees his handles, got it! So how long did it take you to countersink your new handles, jigsaw the hole and put them in?

Hey, let's see those cabs you did this to! Post a pic would you please?

BTW, love your avatar! Oh, and it's sees, not see's. I'll tell my web guy he misspelled Phillips, though, thanks.

Just for you I had to unplug a lamp, move it to shine on the cabinet to take the picture..
Knock your self out make fun of it or pick it apart as much as you want, I did that 10 years ago and this is not my living..

It took about an hour to make a jig for the router out of 1/2" , Then I used 3m double sided tape to hold the jig to the back side of the tolex after I peeled it back..
In all honesty it was already counter sunk but it was done so fucked up and it stuck out in the corners on one end and annoyed the hell out of me so I fixed it along the crappy plastic handles..
It is not a Marshall cabinet either to clarify things but I still had to trim the cut out..

Nope, looks like you did a fine job, although I'm guessing it was a 2-3 hour ordeal all told, right? Wood screws to hold them on?

Nope, looks like you did a fine job. Those aren't regular Marshall handles, though, unless they're for their newer cabs they came out with that are smaller.

Or is that just another cab maker altogether? Either way, those don't look like the standard sized Marshall handles. Wood screws to hold them on?

Yes I said it wasnt a Marshall Cabinet but I had to trim the Cutout for the handle too..
3/4" #10 pan head the load is spread so evenly across the handle with that amount of screws in it so there is no stress, Shouldnt be anyways due to the weight of the cabinet not having that much of an impact...
If it was going to be hung from a crane and weighed 1000 lbs then I would do something else..

Like I said it took about an Hour, I didnt remove the speakers, just the back and turned it on to its side, slid the back of the cab to one side to reach in and cut because I cut from underneath while looking at the blade following the line from the top with my eyes with the jigsaw because it is a cleaner cut even though shop teachers tell you not to..

I did 600+ gigs in 2 years with 2 of these cabinets done like that but I did use road cases too..
And it doesn't stop me from carrying the cabinet like a suitcase with one handle..

I used to buy these ALL THE time and they just drop right in 100% perfectly... they are 9.98 once you put them in the cart...

They have 12 holes which mean a few extra holes in your cab , but I like that as it creates a better seal and is stronger!

These handles rock, but you cant order any more till july they tell you once you try and check out... really lame!

(ya gotta scroll down a bit)

Thanks, But the are too small wont fit... need the Marshall sizr replacements for like a 8 3/4 appox hole in the cab

The right size usually has 12 screw holes

My Marshall 1960BV cabs are 11 years old with probably 750 gigs on them and I still have the original "crappy" plastic handles on them. Never given me one problem. I think guys that leave their stuff in studios and keep it mint shouldn't have a problem with them.
