Besides the guitar; what, if any other instruments do you play?

  • Bass

  • Drums/xylophone/rainstick/other percussion

  • Piano/keyboard/Organ

  • Classical Strings (Violn, Cello, Viola, Harp, etc...)

  • Wind (flute, trumpet, sax, didgeridoo, etc...)

  • Other strings/Banjo, Mandolin, Citar etc...

  • Electronic/Synth/Turntable

  • Beat box/tongue clicking/teeth chatter

  • Engine Revving, Small Mammal hug squeals, Fireworks/Firearms, etc...

  • I cover my ears at specific intervals to create beats and melodies that only I can hear

I can play piano and bass, but I mostly only play them to do recording stuff.

Recording stuff is the real final boss of GAS because it's so unbelievably expensive and such a deep rabbit hole.

You can get by with a relatively streamlined setup, but your recordings jump up in quality exponentially when you add the right stuff to the mix.

I've thought about buying some preamps, etc... like actual hardware. I looked at a 500-series rack, and holy cow are you on the mark with calling it a rabbit hole.

100%.

It's so ridiculously expensive, but if you know what you're doing you can make amazing, special recordings.

The problem is no one that has the money to do that ever has the time to put into getting truly great at it, which I feel like should be a named paradox.

Ill probably never have the money to do that, so I'm super sad that people who do don't have the time to really dive in and get good at it.

If I had a bricasti, a crane, a distressor, a 2290, and some amazing mics, I could easily engineer professionally - and so could millions who will never have access to that equipment, which is the paradox

As a big Cliff Burton, Geddy Lee and Gene Simmons fan, I took up bass lessons back in the 80's.
In college, every semester I had to take a "piano lab".
I'm no Elton John by any means, but I know intervals and can build chords.
I used to be better when I was playing piano daily...

I’ve been a bass player since I was 8 years old. My old man is a bass player. Im a decent guitar player. I also can play drums and piano. I can play a flute and an oboe thanks to my wife and my daughter but not well enough to list it.

I actually played xylophone for years in my school band and was pretty damned good at it.....chose that because guitar wasn't an option and neither was piano but I figured the xylophone was close enough to a piano.

So i'm fairly adept at single note/scalar stuff on piano as a result of that but don't know shit about piano chords really. I created my own little setup where I trigger chords from my Maschine pads with my right hand while playing single note stuff on my midi keyboard with my left hand 😁

I'm decent enough at drums to at least hold consistent beats and sit in on jam seshes

Played bass for the better part of a decade in a decently locally popular band (because I already knew and loved the other dudes in the band and they needed a bass player)

Guitar is def my first and most consistent love though

along with guitar, I have played bass and drums in gig situations. Though I don't currently own any gear related to either of those. (Sort of, I have a kids drumset for my daughter).

We also have a keyboard in the house as my daughter is taking lessons on that, and I sometimes will stumble around on it and try to play Savatage and VH.

A lot more pianists than I would have expected, tbh.
Would be cool to hear some clips if y'all have any.
