Hi all,
I know this topic has been covered a hundred times,
but can somebody please tell me which effects you should use IN FRONT of your amp and which IN THE LOOP?

I am not sure if I should buy timefactor/pitchfactor/modfactor-pedals and place them at different parts of the signal chain or get an multi-fx to achieve the best tonal results. Basically I look for something to get a nice cleansound =)

i have a time factor and i found i like the sound best in front of my herbert including my wah my other effects go thru my switchable loop

I would put all of the factor series -pedals to loop(s). But it is not actually that simple, because it also depends wether to use them in serial or parallel loop and in which order.

Once again this is a matter of taste and sounds you are after so I think best answer is to try both before making a decision. In case of certain effects the impact will me more dramatic as with some other effects you barely notice any difference. I prefer everything else except od/distortion and wah in loop - in other words; after preamp. I don't actually use any od or distro pedals so everything else except wah are in loop.

Ok, thanks for your help

I thought it would be "normal" to use f.e. a chorus in front of the amp and a delay in the loop...

It kind of is "normal" or "typical", but that is not the only option. It also varies a bit between different units. Two different choruses might work a bit differently wether they are connected in loop or in front of the amp. So in practice, "try out" is the only rule I would utilize.

In my experience, I use all overdrives(tube screamer, maxon etc.) in front of the amp and all modulation effects, delays through the effects loop. Small stone works alot better for me in front of the amp for some reason. Much more color.
