For you boys who have been around all 3. Which was your favorite and why. I am thinking of getting one or the other. I am looking for the ultimate hotroded marshall tone. I know they are all different. I just moved my wizard mc 100 which i loved for a diezel blue face vh4. So I am going to be back in the market soon. I am thinking friedman.
Are those all your amps in your avatar?? If so, if you can't coax so tones out of those that get you in the territory of the amps youre inquiring about then I think that's where the problem is. Why blow another 3 or 4g's??

I'm sorry...I for the life of me can't understand this amp flipping/buying stuff in search of the 'perfect' tone

I could take each of of those amps and basically sound the same with each one after dialing them in to my taste. Im a firm believer that most of our actual tone comes from our fingers

with that said, I would go for the CCV

I think that it's all bullshit until you mic up a speaker and listen to the amp through the monitors. I have had a few experiences with amps that I thought were great....until they went under the microscope of the studio.

I will say that in my experience, the VH4 records like a dream and is just phenominal in the studio. The CCV is also off the charts and on the same level. These two compliment each other very well IMHO....both are very versatile and have low noise levels.

GET THE CCV!

I've owned the Marsha and the 101B but not the CCV. The Bogner was cool but I didn't like the feel of the amp as much as some others...mine always seemed too compressed and lacked the dynamics that I look for (sounded great though and had one of the best clean channels that I've come across in a multi-channel amp). I wouldn't mind trying one again...I had mine back in the late 90's.

I love the Marsha for both tone and feel. Even on the HBE setting it cleans up nicely when the guitar's volume iw rolled back and responds very well to pick attack. I don't get the "lack of tightness" comments...mine stays tight on the lows even with the bass and gain dimed (not how I run it).

I'd love to try a CCV but I was less than impressed with how it stacked up to the competition in Lugo's shootout...IMO several of the other entries (including the Marsha and Wizard MC) were noticeably better.

To the OP: I'll be in State College this Saturday for rehearsal...if you want to try the Marsha out let me know and we can meet up somewhere.

What's a slouch amp?  I've heard of a slouched guitarist...

The classic Jimmy Page "stance".

DECADES of wearing a 15 pound guitar around yer neck

I think the VH4 is in a class of its own and maybe doesn't come into this comparo - the ones in the OP are all along the modded Plexi go-for tones (I'm guessing...?!!??) whereas the VH4 doesn't really "do" the "I'm a souped up Plexi" gig very well. It's its own thang.

Just my 2 cents,
V.

PS - but FWIW, I f*ckin' LOVE my 20thX with KT77's. Thing simply rules, and I've been playing around with some stomps in the front, and it's just tits. Mk.4:23 on the clean? Bingo - there's the volume, no grit needed. BB+ or Mk.4:23 on the Blue? :D Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.... Gotta go.

I am going to buy a new VH4, have it modded by Friedman, and have Cameron give it the blessing and have all three logos on it. Then get the Tool dude to stand next to it with his thumb pointing upward while wearing Converse EVH Chucks.

Don't forget to have Cameron put black goop so you have no idea what the insides look like, that will be 4K.

Serious?

Any builder not protecting anything they have come up with has a hole in their head. If I had something different that has a great tone and have not seen it done I would expoxy box that circuit and void any service coming if there was a scratch on it.

bad tubes

And yet the same exact CCV with the same tubes is in Mark Day's amp clip that everyone loved. It's also the same amp used for the new production CCV's...
The bane of my existence - mic placement

Patent Pending and amp mods don't mix.

Gooping is pretty stupid and piss ignorant. Blacking out component values is fair game. If an amp builder wants to goop, he should be prepared to service. I find that a gooped amp is usually a sign that the mod is actually copied from someone else and the "gooper" is protecting his copied circuit from being seen by the "goopee" and thwarting potential public shame or an ass-whoopin.

The amp is mine, I bought it, and I didn't request a ball of shit on every component. Goop is also used for shit soldering.

I could go into detail about why I wasnt diggin but lets just say I am a Diezel VH4 user and its kinda like the benchmark for me in terms of quietness (when your not playing) , tightness on the low end, gain structure. The naked and the marsha are fine amps but im not really buying into the whole 80's sound thing. Like why would I want to recreate the fuckin 80's?
the amps sounded cool but just werent a VH4. Its hard to come off a fuckin masterpiece and play a marshall clone-ish amp and be impressed. In fact its been awhile since I have been impressed with a marshall style amp. I need the amp to sound TIGHT and have huge mid range punch. Im sure with a different CAB, a les paul, and a NOISE SUPPRESSOR the amps would have been more to my liking.
Calling a VH4 a masterpiece is kinda stretching it but to each his own.

Oh is that really stretching it? its more of a masterpiece than some recreation of a fuckin marshall. Its something never done before. Its A NEW thing to its own. Much closer to a masterpiece than hot rodded wannabe EVH amp.

NOT on ALL of the amps... :D

This HG Jose SLP isn't gooped

Take it from Zach, guys. Hauling around all that gear is bad for your health. That's why he is sending a majority of it to me and buying a Mesa Transatlantic and a Thiele cab.

We will have to agree to disagree.

When is the last time you had a failure with the tone stack part of the amp that conponets needed to be replaced? Lets make a thread and find out from serious years of experience.

Blacking out how? As in total removal of all values? That is the same thing, the only way to get it serviced is through the builder.

Not sure where you are pointing this responce to but you are way off, trust me I know. What does conformal coating have to do with soldering?????

Just name the name you are directing this to, stop beating around the bush.
