would I like? Thinking about moving one of my amps for one of these.

Elmwood M90

Soldano SLO

Diezel VH4

Diezel Herbert

others?

I've got the Marshall thing pretty much nailed down with my two plexis, 1959RR and Metalface. The modded Marshall is covered with the Metal. The Fender thing is covered with a BF DR, Vibro Champ and BF Champs. Looking for something more Modern.....

might as well throw Cornford in with those also!

and maybe the Suhr OD100 SE+?

i liked all of those you listed on the first try, except the VH4, and now like the VH4 after hearing it with deferent tubes.

guess the Herbert would be my pick from your list. the Herbert probably covers the most bases, good feel, good clean, lots of sounds, etc.?

there's a M90 for $2800 at Hugeracks.

I like the SLO.
But I like them all and might give a different answer tomorrow.

I think if you want something alot different than what you have, the Herbert or M90. I don't have alot of time on the M90, but the gas I had for one went away after I played it. Still a nice amp though. The vh4 ('07 or later) is my favorite of the bunch though. It feels/plays similar to an UL but obviously voiced different. I'm not a big fan of the SLO. I actually prefer the avenger.

I am hoping to find something that will handle my 7 string low range. That is one area none of my current amps are good at. The OD100 sounds nice but I think it might be too close to what I have already.

Cool. I've tried some Hotrods and liked those. Wonder how they would do with lower tunings.

What didnt you like about the M90?

VH-4, best sounding modern high-gain I've heard
I'm alittle leary of this only because I've never heard any recordings of it I liked. But it would cover alot of ground.

I like the mids better on the SLO than the Diezel's.

But when you get down there around the C B A notes I like a Tremoverb.
But I do not think that is going to make your list. :)

probably the Herbert then?

i've got an M90 and really like, but to me i'd call it a hot rodded Marshall sound. some guys think it's pretty modern sounding and maybe it is, but i for sure wouldn't call it big and crushing? the M90 sounds good with allmost any cab, any tuning, but it acts more like a 50watter than a 100 or 120. you dial it in for lots of lowend and it will sound pretty good, but it's not gonna thump you in the chest and just doesn't feel like the higher watt amps.

i thought the VH4 was pretty Marshally with the stock tubes, but didn't get that vibe with deferent tubes in it. Cornfords and SLO both cool, but probably not your target?

If you're looking for something modern sounding to use with the 7 string, the Herbert does extremely well with the extended scale and 7 string guitars. The voicing on a lot of amps just doesn't lend itself well to the low B, but the Herbert takes it like a champ.

The Tremoverb was not that bad. We had to use one in Fusion class at GIT, it was ok for that. But yeah, probably not going Mesa :)

I don't really need tons of low end, just something that will stay tight and clear on the lower range of the 7 string. I heard some clips on the Elmwood site that sounded pretty good. I like the higher headroom of bigger power sections, wondered about the M90's power section.

The SLO I think I would like, but don't think it will be a good lower tuned amp.

I don't know which would suit you better. I say try an XTC
i had one of those and didnt care for it. The red channel was useless, very noisy, mushy and undefined at standard tunings. The Blue channel was pretty good, but not quite there. The overall feel was way to saggy for what I look for....

Yeah I agree. My current amps don't do that great with the 7.

I've had the M90, M60, and the Herbert. The Elmwood difinitely has a unique voicing. I personally dug the 60 more that the 90, the 60 just had a better mid thing happening. For what you're describing, the Herbert would be my first choice. Killer tight low end, and way more versatile than you would think.
