Which amp purchase has ended up being the best?

Mesa Triple Rectifier.

Based on my past experiences with Rectifiers I assumed that I would hate the Triple as well. But, when I plugged into this particular Triple it sounded amazing. It has cured my high gain amp GAS. I'd gone through Soldanos, ENGL's and the like and couldn't get with any of them. The Triple is cool. I am a long time Mesa user though (MK's), so my ear leans to them.

I'm not sure why, but this surprises me. I had a Dual Rec some years back and despite the trend at that time of dogging them, thought it was a good amp but never thought of you as a rectifier type guy.

I think it's the avatar. Strats and teles does not make me think triple rectifier, JTM 45, sure but triple recto? Not so much.

I think Rectos are good amps, but they're not "me." But for some things they're 100% the right tool for the job and would happily use one if I needed those tones.

My XTC-C works great for me, even better than when I first got it like 10 years ago, but there are lots of amps I could be happy with if I had to use something else.
