Took me a while to think about this, but definitely my first Splawn Nitro!

I already owned a Quickrod before getting it, and really dug it, so I thought I had a good idea of what I would be getting. I'm one of the guys that really likes the Splawn voicing. Bought one of the first runs in 08 loaded with KT77 from a friend. Spent months fighting with it, because it was sooooo close to what I wanted, just something I couldn't dial out/in. It was like the brass ring on the merry-go-round. So close, it had to be somewhere in the EQ, boost, pups, speakers, etc... I think I kept it for about 6 months before I finally gave up.

Fast forward to 2010, and I ordered a new one with KT88 direct from Splawn. I had to try it again, because I never tried KT88 in mine, and I wanted to try the built in loop level/master vol. My first one sounded much better with some preamp volume. Out of the box, within about 5 minutes I had what I wanted out of the new one. Either the KT88 make a huge difference, something has changed in amp itself, or my tastes changed radically. Go figure.

I had no luck with the suhr od100se+, but I really liked the pt100.

They need to have the "tubes up" mod, like we did for Kurt. Otherwise, all the tone settles in the top of the tubes......

My let down was the Street rod.
Although mine came to me after being delivered by Ace Ventura.
I checked it out, changed the tubes and it was not what it could be. Not for me.
Sent that thing right on back out the door. Quickest divorce possible.
Some guys swear by them.....
But some guys like big chicks, and some don't....
to each his own.

Easily the Fender Supersonic head for me. What a dud. I was a big fan of the Prosonic back in the day so I was really looking forward to this. Got a fairly good deal from a guy I knew. Both channels were fairly thin sounding and the lead chan had a horrible 60 cycle hum to it. I could only dial in adequate tones...nothing special. My solid state Fender Ultimate Chorus that I've had since I was 15 sounded way better than this thing. I ended up calling him that night saying I have no choice but to bring it back and get my money back. He wasn't all too happy but I said "listen, this thing's a lemon, and there's no way it will be useful in the studio" so he finally agreed. So glad I washed my hands of that thing. Yuck.

Diezel Einstein..... it wasn't a disappointment per se, but I didn't like the clean channel as much as I wanted to. The OD waas great, but the cleans were not my thing that much.

I'd have to say my biggest disappointment was when my buddy got his Bogner Twin Jet. Feel like it was a power tube issue more than anything but it just didn't sound right....

My Mesa DC-3 combo...only because it turned out to have more problems than just needing new tubes like the owner told me. He felt sorry and threw in a Theile 1x12 to make up for it, so I was happy. Now I just need to figure exactly what is wrong.

Owned my 5150 for like 8 years and now I have my Colossus. I don't think I'll be buying any more main amps for a while. Never really been dissapointed, mainly because I make sure I like something before I buy it

who did the mods and why didnt u dig it? My dissapointment was a Splawn Pro Modded Marshall plexi. It was the top shelf mod package from him back in the day and It just wasnt my thing. It was uber compressed and just didnt sound like a marshall anymore, maybe due to the kt88. It had so much gain on tap that it was rediculous and was a noisy piece of shit. It looked great though! I think he got offended when I seriously asked how much he charged to revert it back to stock format, he said he wouldnt to that.
