Which amp was your most disappointing purchase?

Funny how tone is relative, mostly. And the amps listed here are probably listed on people's favorites in another thread!

I thought the same thing.

What this thread really shows is people have different taste and about nothing else...

Personally I feel almost all the amps listed in this thread suck....

Doesn't really count as an amp, but the Mesa rectifier recording pre is just awful. I'm sure it sounds fine mated to a power amp etc, but the recording direct out is beyond terrible.

Haven't ever purchased any amps that I disliked immediately... it's just a matter of how long the honeymoons were

What do you use?

THD/Fryette most of the time. I own several of the amps mention in the thread. The "suck" reference above was sarcasm. I like most things for what they are .....Amps without a master volume are my preference for most applications.

should probably also add my line 6 vetta combo to this..after my mesa debacle I was turned off of tube amps...played it for a while in a spam ass (sam ash) and it was easy to play, had grease (fx) out the ass...sounded pretty big...so I was like 'kewl'...played it for a couple years actually....then I joined a band and immediately got swallowed in the mix by my buddy's tube combo no matter what I did...so I went back to tubes...

I'm still wondering why they wasted the processing power on 'the doubler' feature...all it sounded like was some kinda weird spacial effect that always sounded warbly...

Peavey 5150.
I bought the combo when it firsst came out in the 90's and couldn't bond with it.
A few years later tried the head and didn't like it at all.
From all the internet love I actually tried it again....ugh.

I don't know how Ed came up with an amp like that after using a plexi for all those years.

I can understand 100% why you would not like that amp due to the years of listening to you and hearing your style of playing.


Your view though is one of the only views I take serious here though, I am thinking of several things.......

1 n00bs listened to someone they should not have listened to or...............

2 the amp owned their ass.
