guys during their prime, what bands where BIGGER than anything out there.... can we pick only one?

Maiden?
Van Halen?
Metallica?

In my era, it was Van Halen. They were loved by the jocks and the cheerleaders just as much as they were loved by the rockers and the metalheads and the burn outs. It seemed that every chick I dated in high school, no matter if she was on the gymnastics team or a cheerleader or just a regular girl had a poster of David Lee Roth or Eddie Van Halen on their walls. And no, I did not stare at the Eddie posters while I was making out with the girls....... well, maybe just a little.

When I was a kid (10-12yo) it was Bon Jovi. The SWW album and the NJ were bigger than anything here at the time.

Led Zeppelin
Rolling Stones
Beatles
The King, for sure... Hell he more or less started the white boy rock'n'roll thing, didn't he?!?!
KISS, absolutely - they were viral man!!
Grateful Dead, believe it or not, people dedicated their LIVES man....
U2
Nirvana, although they reached "bigger than life" kinda after the fact...

Out of all of them though, Led Zeppelin existed in a time where there was already a paradigm shift underway socially, drugs were getting better, freedom was an actual choice, and the innate 'want' to get on with 'heavy metal' just sprouting. They were gods in their prime - absolute gods.

Whats been said for sure. To add another possibility-Pink Floyd.

You know what sucks? I wish there were some rock bands NOW that were larger than life, and not one's that are on their 8th reunion.
