Which cab for 5150III 50w?

I have been using a 412 cab with V30's in it for my 5150III 50W for a while now and was thinking of changing it up. What cabs/speakers are you all using with this amp? 212, 412? etc

I have the matching one by 12 and It was surprisingly huge sounding.

ANYTHING with Greenbacks. I've had the EVH cab a couple times, and it sounds great with the heads but I actually like either regular chinese G12Ms or any other GB variant better than the Heritages that come with the EVH. Had a VM 425a/b cab with G12Cs, and a few with regular old chinese Ms and they just made the amp raunchier to me. The Heritages in the EVH cab were too polite IMO. Still good though.
I think you'll find a BIG improvement when you get away from V30s. No offense, but I hated that amp with V30s. I've always have 1 V30 cab laying around and tried that once. Not again.

I used two of the EVH 1x12s when I had mine and it sounded better through those than my bogner os 2x12 w v/30s

I have to agree with greenbacks. Nothing is better suited and you might like a 2x12 cab, I prefer a 4x12 myself.

The EVH 50 watt is one of the greatest amps of all time. Any speaker in front of it will shine.

The best I've ever heard a 5153 50w sound was through a Dr. Z Z-Best in its standard V30/Creamback configuration. I was checking out a boost pedal once, and long story short, that was the rig I went into. I've owned and played many 5150s over the years, including the 50w, and it never sounded so sound. I was shocked - had a thickness, I assume from being ported, that I'd never experienced before from that amp. And I'd even agree with Racerxrated that I don't like a 5150 with V30s, but it just seems to balance so well in this application. That's my favorite cab ever, and sounded great with anything I ran through it.

thats always one of the hardest questions to answer because

1) you will never know until you try out EVERYTHING (which is impossible)
2) others can't tell you what YOU will like

I have played mine through a lot of cabs loaded with ...Greenbacks, Creambacks, V30, T75's, Scumbacks, K100, G85's, eminence. None of them sounded "bad" but they all sounded very different, the best tone I found for what I like was the scumback 65's

But I also usually HATE V30's but when I ran it into a mesa V30 cab it sounded AWESOME (but as we know the mesa V30's are "different" to normal ones)

I can't afford scumbacks (way to expensive to ship here) so I run mine with 2 G85's and 2 eminence (don't know what they are as they have no writing at all on them apart from 8ohms) and it sounds great


speakers are a real rabbit hole that once you fall in there it can be a long way out. SO yeah i'm no help but good luck

I have the EVH 2x12 and had the 4x12. The 50 watt sounds great through both but the EVH 2x12 is not always great with outher amps in my arsenal. A Mesa 2x12 is killer with the 50 watt for me. It also sounds great with my Splawn 2x12 that is loaded with V30s.
