Which EL34's are you all using?

I can hear power tube differences in most amps… my Mesa’s killed with the Sylvania’s, Cameron’s and Marshall’s with Winged C’s…. Etc. I’ve got a massive tube stash because I can hear the differences. Wish I didn’t. ?

I can also feel the difference. Some are tighter, some have better touch sensitivity, etc. and so on.

What are the tubes I got from you? Those are great. Much better than the tubes that were in my Friedman. The amp came alive and the pre amp tubes also changed the amp quite a bit, the clean channel became magnificent after the pre amp tube switch.
I sent you some GT EL34LS with the bigger heat wings than the JJ EL34 L. Preamp tubes..can’t quite remember but probably Ei pre war. I have a bunch

My Mesa TC-50 still has a lot of warranty coverage left, so I'll only run Mesa power tubes in it, currently running pair of the Mesa NOS Siemens STR 450s purchased direct from them (yes, price was silly), when its time to replace them. I'll probably go back to Mesa STR 447s.

Old thread but always a fun topic.

After all these years, I need Electro Harmonix EL34s in my amps. They just have a feel and aggression I can't find elsewhere. The biggest thing is feel. It's like the notes are more pliable and the amp is more fun to play.

I just had my Stiletto serviced recently and got to hear the new PSVane 34’s in it. Definitely increased the low end response but had less mids and teeth than the Boogie 34’s I had to try with it (was retiring JJ E34L’s that had been in it for 10 years). I preferred the balance with the Boogie 34’s and the amp sounded like it wanted to rock. I could imagine if somebody wanted to use the Stiletto in a pure metal context they might prefer the PSVanes. The PSVanes might be a little more like 6CA7’s. With tubes there’s no one size fits all, unfortunately. Depends on the amp they’re going in.

I think that these EH EL-34s are the most bang for the buck in Marshall type amps. They sound great, they're reasonably priced and have decent longevity.

I like em so much, I have em in my Dual Rec too. For me personally, they have this feel!
