Which ENGL to compliment my other dream amps?

Just bored and dreaming up a rig.

Here's the deal. Between the Fireball and Blackmore, which would be a better choice? My first metal amp is going to be a 5150, there's no doubt about that. For my second I am either going to get a Fireball or Blackmore. I've always preferred the Blackmore tone over the Fireball but considering my next thought I am reconsidering. I am also going to get a Cali modded JCM 800 somewhere down the line as well, which would leave me with... three british voiced amps. For that reason I am leaning toward the Fireball because it would give me a totally different tone than either the 5150 or 800.

It's a hard gear life. What does Rig-Talk have to say?
 
I would buy the blackmore, it is based on the savage which is my favorite Engl.
 
Fireball 100 and the SE are the best sounding IMO and I have owned them all except for the Morse. The 100watt Fireball is much better than the 60watt original ones.
 
The only Engls I have yet to play are the SE, Fireball 100 and Powerball 2. Out them all I prefer the Invader for it's versitlity. It can get as heavy as any of them or as vintage as an Engl has the ability to get. The Fireball 60 is way too mid scooped, would hope the 100 has more mids. The Blackmore does not get as heavy as the Savage imo. The Invader has a more solid thud on the bottom than the Savage. Just my opinion, but out of the two you mentioned I would go for the Blackmore. Also, the Invader is midi, big plus when you have an amp that can cover a shit load of ground. :rock:
 
I've had a Blackmore, Savage and 5150. Believe it or not, they are all fairly similar. Yes the Blackmore can hang with the Savage. I've spend quite a few hours comparing them side by side.

I sold my 5150 and gave the Savage back to my buddy. I still have my Blackmore and I love it. I've had many amps, but the Blackmore stays. I also have a Voodoo V-Rock.

Maybe you should try the Fireball 100?

oh if only it were that simple. I called the Guitar Mart nearest me and asked if they could get their hands on an ENGL amp that I could try and they said no. Flat out, no. WTF kind of customer service is that? Even if they could it would be like the time they unboxed a 6505+ for me to try (really should have been on display in the first place) where as I get up to leave they ask why I'm not buying it. Assholes all of them, I hate that place.
 
I've owned a Blackmore, Savage 120, Powerball, and Screamer. The Blackmore was by far my favorite. I thought it sounded way better than any of the others.
 
Unfortunately now I am gassing for both amps lol. Really wish it were easier to get your hands on one of these amps to try :aww: I am even having second thoughts about getting a 5150 first, I may even pop for the ENGL straight out of the gate. Thoughts?
 
You will not be disappointed with the Blackmore. If we were closer, I would bring mine over for you to try. You live in NJ, you should be able to find someone that has one to try. Try finding an Engl in MN where I live!! What a joke!!!
