Which Friedman amp/mod for the Doug Aldrich solo tone?

The only amp I've ever heard in person that captured that tone is an actual Cameron Marshall with the Aldrich-Mod. I tried to buy it from a friend years ago and he wouldn't sell. It sounded exactly like the tone I was hearing on the DIO Live in NYC DVD.

With that said, if you are looking for a Friedman it can probably get you in the area. I would try to research certain things about the Cameron so you can have Dave add something in there. He can modify the amps based on your needs. The Cameron I heard had alot of low end and I think that helps capture Doug's tone. That low rumble in there.

That amp was a Suhr modded Marshall that doug has been playing for years. If you are dead set on a Friedman then the BE or SS would get you close to that tone. I would custom order a Suhr handwired SE and you'll never look back. :0)

What's the handwired SE? I'm familar with his OD100, PT100, handwired SL (like Pete Thorns), but not the SE? Is that just his standard 'crunch mod?" I actually had a Suhr 'overdrive' mod done to an old marshall JMP many years ago. While it sounded good, it was really just one sound -- lots of gain.

The Aldrich mod is very unique. Like nothing else I have heard or played. It is brighter without being harsh and has this unique tone and feel to it. I don't know about the Suhr but from what I hear the Cameron is the tops. Mark knows how to get the low end right. As I understand it this is one of the harder things to accomplish and where others fall short.

Fellow forumite Hard&Heavy has a Suhr modded Marshall JMP that gets Dougs tone perfectly. Infact I think it is a Suhr Aldrich mod. So what I am getting at is maybe consider a Suhr amp.

Cameron Old Bitch coming to a you tube channel near you. As designed my Mark Cameron with Dave and George it does this tone...

If you want the tone, just get a Golub Lead Mod.

All you need is any 2203 style amp with a Furman EQ in front.

Listen to the FJA Nick mods on youtube its his take on the aldrich

Do golub or suhr or Bradshaw still perform these mods on Marshall's ?

Cameron Marshall mod I would think or the Cameron Old Bitch!!

Martin Golub @ LASD will. I have one still from a few years back. I just talked to David Phillips the other day. Martin does these from his place in Portland, not in LA. Adds a gain stage and if you want, a tube DX loop which is great.

Bradshaw = MIA and off the radar.

Suhr - Not doing them anymore, however he will do the modification to one of his new Handwired amps, or at least he told me he would.

Cameron - the heaviest hitting of the Aldrich mods. Find a used one or go through the backdoor. I still have one that has been around the block. This is the only one I have seen with an insert for the PQ3 on the back end (the way Doug ran his).

Gower - Dan built me a one-off custom Aldrich circuit with a few other post EQ bells and whistles. It's a work horse and highly recommended if you need some specialty switching and other options.

There's one of the very few that John Suhr did, that I used to own. Greg has it now (Hard & Heavy). Same set up as Golub's, but has a switchable loop. There's rumor around that he may be selling :D and if he does, it is one of those that you need to check out.

I'd rather have a "production" amp like the new Cameron's or Friedman Brown Eye rather than a modded Marshall....that you may or may not get what you think you're going to get with a mod! Seems like they are all individual pieces and can vary in tone and and feel because an individual is focused on that particular amp at the time. At least that's how I've always viewed modded Marshalls. :scared:

I agree!!! At least there is some consistency with the production amps but I am sure Dan can provide you with a great sounding modded Marshall amp.

I have the original Cameron that both Doug and John used; how badly do you want that tone?
