I am looking for a multi-effect floorboard. Don't need the amp models as it will be going into 5150 3 50 watt head. For the guys that use these, what do you like and why? don't want to go over $500-$600. Thanks!

For the past year, I have been using the TC Electronic Nova System. I had the G-Major for a few years prior. But when I heard the Nova, I thought the effects were of the same quality. So I did away with my rack. I also use it in conjunction with my 5150 III 50 watt (LOVE that head!!!). Added bonus: You can use the Nova, via MIDI, to change channels on your amp with your preset changes.
I think you can find them used for around the $250-$325 range. Or you can find them new for about $375-$425.
I hope this helps!

I had not really thought about the Nova. Have to look into that one! Thanks!

PodHD500. Works extremely well as an effects-only unit! It's basically an M13 with more flexibility and they're cheap used. Run it in pedalboard mode and you have basically any pedal scenario you could wish for.

Four responses...four different answers. I have a Digitech RP1000. Works perfect with the 4CM. No tone degradation when bypassed. I use the models as well for clean tones as well. Makes my JCM800 a multi channel monster!!!!

Old Boss ME-5 (Nuno) and Boss GT8.

^^^^This. Best tone I've got, GT-8 does 4CM, and loop can be placed anywhere in the chain.

I own no effects at the moment but the RP1000 will be my next effects unit.

Not multi-effect floorboard per se, but I'm using the Strymon Mobius and Timeline.

digitech 2101 rack with the floorboard. been using it for almost 20 years...super powerful unit, does everything i need it to, and much much more....no modeling bullshit either. just digital effects that i know how to build and program.

Wish Strymon would make a multieffect pedal!

I'm using a Line6 M9. It has no amp models, just effects. They can be put in any order and are easy to dial in.

FWIW I had a Boss ME-50 in the past and recently sold a Nova System. They are both good but I like the M9.

this +1

had a nova system too, which wasn't bad bit more pristine sounding but imo a bit sterile ,preferred the huge range of effects on the M9 and certain particular ones not found elsewhere (particle verb/octo verb, sweep echo etc etc..)

I'm kind of in this boat right now as well. I'd like to get the Line6 M13. I had one previously for a very, very short loaner. I really don't want to run 4CM though....so I may just opt for some decent pedals, a loop switcher and go from there. I like the M13 because everything is pretty much there in the box and done and I only need to pickup and expression pedal as the unit would switch the channels on my amp as well. Tough decisions!

I run a Nova System in the loop of a Bogner Ecstasy. Very simple and easy to use set up. I like the pristine effects in a live rig.

Hate big effects processors... just a Bosss NS-2 a Boss tuner in front of the amp and a hardwire rv-7 in the loop...

I have a Boss GT-100. I like how quick and easy the user interface is to use and it does 4cm. I mainly use it for some chorus/flanger and delay but don't use the modeling much. It doesn't interface to the PC nearly as well as the Line6 HD500 though but works well as a standalone unit.

IMHO, after the BOSS GT-8 the tones started getting worse, not better. I'll take a GT-8 over a GT-10 or GT-100 every time.
