Looking at picking up a Nailbomb for my N4. Trying to decide if I want the Alnico or Ceramic version. I have an Aldrich in the bridge right now. I'm not unhappy with it, but would like a change. My band plays modern hard rock in Drop Db (C#) I currently use a Splawn QuickRod, but am transitioning to an Axe FX for live shows. Looking for something tight and punchy. If anyone has experience with the Nailbombs, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

The ceramic will be slightly tighter. Both iterations are wonderful and I have been happy with both for my needs. Based on your set up you are migrating to and the music you play I would choose the non ceramic version personally. I think you will retain a wee tad bit more character and won't miss any tightness or reaction time based on what music you play. If you were doing a lot of fast chug cannibal corpse type stuff where you need that super tight speed I would say ceramic. Hope that helps clarify and again, only my opinion from my experience. Good luck!

I have had ceramic and alnico version in several guitars . In my opinion it depends on the guitar but I will say the ceramic version is not as picky. Ive had the ceramic version feel better in more guitars than the alnico. If the guitar is very tight and a little lean in the bass naturally go alnico to fatten it up. The alnico will also fatten up the high strings. If you want tighter on the bass , and smoother in the mids go ceramic.

I have both and prefer alnico for sure. More depth, more organic. I do not like that pickup at lowish gain settings. The mids are not placed well for it, in my experience in multiple guitars.

I have my PRS Tremonti setup in D standard/ drop C. I prefer the BKP Emerald over the Nailbomb in that one.

I have a ceramic in a Mayones Duvell. love it.

Just buy a ceramic and if you don't like it, swap in a rough cast alnico 5 mag. BKP uses an oversized ceramic so you'll have to shim the alnico bar with a small piece of material. Still easy enough.

Getting an oversized ceramic into an alnico Nailbomb is more tricky because the bobbin spacers need to be taller.

I have had both and in my opinion the ceramic is better. It still has a very nice non-harsh top end. It's my fave BKP and I have tried alot of them. Nothing wrong with the alnico which I generally prefer in alot of other brands.......not the case with BK..
