Dava jazz gels (orange color), the new dunlop john petrucci sig pics or big stubby 2.0 . Cool jazz pics in med or heavy are great also. Elderly instruments usually has a good stock on good pics !

I started using Clayton Delrin small teardrop pick a few years back when I found out Paul Ryan from Origin uses them (Because he picks as fast or faster than pretty much anyone). And they are really good for fast tremelo picked death metal riffs. My next favorite would be the Jazz iii's.

I like metal picks - a little more attack than plastic, and you get much better pick slides.

I think the thinner picks are good if you're mostly doing lead, but I find thicker ones are needed for heavy rhythm.

I actually like the opposite- I use Tortex .58 most of the time, but enjoy the lead shredding of the Jazz III 1.38- arpeggio city with those picks! But I don't like how they respond to my rhtythm playing

I choose picks for tone ... just like the rest of my gear. Playing fast is about as impressive as how high you can jump.....

So I guess we've definitively determined that the best picks for fast picking are either thick or thin, sharp or rounded tip, small or large...

I personally prefer Dunlop 3.0 mm Stubbys.

One pick choice that really surprised me... A few years back I was chatting with Dave Shankle (ex-Manowar)...probably the fastest guitarist I know. He said he uses a mandolin pick, which is very rounded off. He liked the way it just glides across the strings.
