Which reverb? Hall Of Fame vs RV-X vs Holy Grail

Looking to buy a reverb soon.

It needs to work in the loop of my Jet City first of all. I know the HoF and HG will work.

The Holy Grail sounds really lush and organic, but seems to lack versatility. I really like my TC Flashback so I'm tempted to just go for the HoF, seeing as it's the same price as other digital reverb pedals.

Thoughts? I'm open to any other suggestions for reverb pedals. They must work in a high dB loop though.

I feel like a Strymon salesman (which I'm not!) on all of these threads, but I really would recommend saving £250 and buying a Strymon BlueSky. By far the nicest reverb pedal I've used (inc. Dr Scientist). Running through the Herbert's loop for me so you should have no issues.

I would go with the Hall of Fame Reverb of the two. Unlike the Holy Grail series from EH, I have heard nothing but positive comments and a nice clips on the HOF reverb from TC electronics.

I have a Digitech Hardwire RV-7 and Hermida Reverb for reference....

The Holy Grail sounds very good, but there's some tone loss and a volume drop when it's engaged. I'd try as many as I could before I buy.

Most verbs mentioned here are good and do the job. I had the Strymon Bluesky but for $300 I only used like 1 setting and I didn't want 300 bucks into a pedal that I didn't take advantage of more. I picked up a TC Hall Of Fame and it's great for the $110 I spent on it. Used in the FX loop it does what it's supposed to do and sounds great.

Also, for 100 bucks the Digitech hardwire and Line 6 Verbzilla are both good buy's.

All the Strymon stuff looks fantastic, it sells itself! Unfortunately, £250 is out of budget for me. It is compatible with high dB loops, as are the TC HoF/Nova and Hardwire reverbs. Not Boss though.

That being said, I think reverb is something that'll be on my board whatever style of music I'm playing at the time.

Ah.. in that case I'll be avoiding that. Annoyingly it's the cheapest of the ones I'm considering.

So guys,

Thanks for the responses.

I think I've narrowed it down to the Hardwire and the Hof reverbs.

They're both pretty much the same price, work in high dB loops and are both very versetile and work in stereo (which I wouldn't use).

Is the Hardwire true bypass? IIRC it is.

i had the RV-7 hardwire in the past , great little pedal,

i recently sold the EHX cathedral i had for the TC HoF reverb, haven't looked back since

EHX has some nice sounding stuff, but i've always unfortunately suffered either a volume drop/loss or noise issues with their pedals

there are some so so modes on the HOF (i don't think the spring mode for example is that convincing) but there are 4-5 settings that are brilliant, and the 'church' mode for big cavernous sounds is great,

new - between the two i'd go for the TC HoF - the toneprint adds a nice bit of flexibility and extra options (i'm currently using the 'dark ambient' tone print for my main reverb) - still crossing my fingers they release a shimmer toneprint =)

otherwise depending on how often you use reverb, if a really good deal on a hardwire reverb comes up used i'd probably consider that, try before you buy if you can

Thru both my Hagen and VH4, the digitech Hardwire just kills, sounds lush and can MANY reverbs, and it's Lexicon verb...
+1

You always seem to give me good advice on pedals.

Funnily enough, I was going to mention the Cathedral reverb by EHX because I watched the demo for the HoF and I really love the Church setting.

Surprisingly, the Hardwire is more expensive than the HoF. I wonder if I could pick up a HoF used. Haven't seen many of them for sale.

thanks, it just so happens we look for at the same gear as well heh

the cathedral does have good sounds, and some big sounding reverbs as well, the tap tempo verb'd delay sounds are pretty neat as well, but chances are you won't really use them, and for me the slight volume loss + ms sound cut off at least with the pedal i had outweighed it, it also takes up a fair amount of space on the board if that matters, and needs i think 200ma of juice ,

if/when EHX put a level control as well as a their blend knob i'll look into it a bit more, i had and sold a memory man with hazarai delay pedal for the same reason really as the cathedral should a learnt my lesson heh

if you're patient you'll probably find a HoF used, they go really quick though , i missed out on one locally by like a day..so forked up the extra 20-30 euros and bought one new instead ,

i was also looking at the neunaber wet reverb pedal also, but 190 euro was a bit much for something i don't use all too often same thing goes for the strymon, it certainly sounds incredible but a bit too expensive unfortunately

i guess another option on the cheap is maybe the marshall reflector which can be found around 40quid , some folk swear by the digitech digiverb too, i haven't had a chance to try either unfortunately

i'd still go for the HoF but depends on how much you want to shell out

I did look at the Marshall reverb, I would definitely have picked one up since they're so cheap and I won't be using reverb that much. Unfortunately they don't work with high dB loops. =/

Similarly, I would've picked up a used Boss Reverb/Delay, so I could have two types of delay at the same time or in the same song but didn't for the same reason.

ah yeah that sucks, from what i've seen the hardwire is around 70-80 quid, the HoF will be about the same if it pops up, if you're patient it'll show up at some point
