i am going to put some scumbacks in my cabs - what do you guys recommend for the friedman amps?

I also have used EV's and cel 80's with great luck wiht Friedman's (Naked and Marsha).

I had Jim build me a Naked cab. We went with an X of H55/H75's and it sounds even better with the Naked and Marsha than the M75's - especially with the Marsha. The Naked would probably sound great through anything. I told Jim the other night that I didn't know if it was the: a) speaker combination, b) the cab construction, or c) the bare wood cab - but the set up sounds awesome. I actually wouldn't mind another one just like it, same speakers. But, the man cave is filling up.

I am also running the XTC through it and it sounds great as well. Don't know for sure, but I think I found the speaker combination I am going to stick with, along with vintage Greens.

What wattages on the speakers? What ohms? Are you wiring them in parallel or series?

me????

4 x 16 ohm speakers in series/parallel for 16 ohm load. the speakers are 65 watt. the H75's are the LHDC's. The H55's have the 55hz cone. The bottom end really comes out.

here's a gut shot.....

lowmantotempole: Is that a V front baffle board on that 2x12 cab I see in your pic? While two M75 65w are a great tone, I think the trend with 2x12 cabs has been the M75/H75 mix for a stronger/tighter low end, and more "umph" in the low mids/lows.

I like the M75/H75 mix for my KS modded amp, which is the same as yours except I don't have the FAT/SAT switches.

Yep, that's what I do and is sounds great.

With the 50w Marsha, two M75 65w small dust cap or M75/H75 mix if you want more low end, and more in your face. Either one is great, just depends what you need.

I have the M75/H75 mix in my Port City OS 2x12...sounds great.

I had two M75s at first...it sounded good, but was definitely a more vintage sound and not as tight. I definitely prefer the mix.

It's funny, since I had three scumbacks, I picked up another H75 and an empty Marshall 1960bx...just to see if a 4x12 was an improvement. It does sound good and is a LITTLE bit punchier than the Port city 2x12, but I think I prefer the openess of the ported cab.

I just want/need something that will hold together at mid to loud volumes. I mostly use the JBE mod so I need it to retain the mids and lows of that mod. I can always use the presence to sharpen the tone a bit. I'll probably go with the mix of M75 and H75 at 65W and 16ohms.

Thanks for the info!

Should I wire them in series or parallel?

Two 16's would be wired in parallel to 8 ohms total load. Two 8's would be wired in series to 16 ohms total load. Dave & I liked the 8 ohm total load (two 16's) when we tried this out a few months back with an OS Port City cab.

I guess the H's (99db) dominate the M's (97db)
am I wrong?

didn't try the M75, but I have some custom MG Black Dog speakers (supposedly between a Silver Bell and a Greenback, 40oz magnet, paper bobbin, kurt mueller cone, small dust cap, aluminum basket) in my Marshall 1960A, that I first tried to pair them with '77 G12M 55hz Blackbacks (97db), but the Black Dogs completely buried the Celestions
then I tried Mesa V30's, and the V30's almost buried the Black Dogs
now I swapped the V30's for Scumback H75's, and they're definitely closer to the Black Dogs volume and voicing, but still a bit louder and slightly clearer

so... considering the M75's are 97db like the G12M Blackbacks, and those were completely buried by the Black Dogs which aren't as loud as the H75's, then wouldn't be kind of a waste pairing the M75's in the same cab with the H75's, since they would barely be heard?
unless their 97db is much louder than Celestion's 97db

the M75 is my favorite speaker from clips, but I'd probably have a cab only with M75's, maybe paired with M55's or M75 LHDC's, instead of mixing them with louder speakers

I've got M75's and H75's in both my 4x12 and 2x12 cabinets and they're matched very well volume wise.

The new Scumback J speakers sound really cool with the naked at the amp show
