Hi all. I just traded my Smallbox head for an older Dirty Shirley head and am VERY happy with it. I prefer the sound running into my V30/H30 loaded 4x12, over running into my V30 loaded Friedman 2x12. But I'm looking for speaker options for the 2x12 that I might prefer, because I like the portability of the 2x12 over the 4x12.

Has anyone tried a Creamback M-65 in that cab paired with a V30? I'd like to soften the harshness of the V30s a bit, and add some fullness. How about a pair of Creambacks in that cab? I'd try a V30 and Greenback pair, because Dave's 4x12s sound so damn good. But in a 2x12 I assume that the V30 would overpower the GB. I've also thought about just going with a pair of GBs in the 2x12. But I'm wondering if it might be too soft. I like a good combination of tight and soft. Not too tight, and not too loose. Like I like my women! (Errrr... my woman I guess.)

I tried several cabs with the 40w DS I used to have. Best sounding was a 2x12 with G12M 25w Greenbacks. Made for that amp.

Good to know! I certainly have considered those. Will keep them on my short list.

Starting to seriously think about a pair of G12 EVH speakers for the Friedman cab. From the reviews I'm reading they sound like a better Greenback. And made in England as well (as opposed to the newer Chinese Greenbacks).

G12EVH's are very dark IMO. Not best match for the DS. I've had two EVH 412 cabs and they are darker than most.

V30 need to be broken on good with lots of volume and time. I found the same with m65. Best I found was to dime the eq and play open clean chords cranked.

I'm sold on the H75/GB combo in my Friedman 412 with my BE. I recorded with the v30's and they recorded terribly (broken in, yet still thin and harsh) so i replaced them. The GB's sounded full and amazing. The H75 gives me the lows and opens up the presence a touch.

If you decide to go with the G12-EVH (or Heritage, same speaker allegedly) then you might consider the Marshall G12Cs. Halfnote has a quad of them on here FS.

V30s sound amazing broken in. It is a matter of interpretation as all tone is. I feel the h75 have a high end . that's why I prefer the 55hz. But with these I use the 30s have similar if more punch in the lower frequencies . and the cut really nice in a live mix

I have a 2 x 12 with a Creamback 65 and a Reeves Purple cast frame. great combination of syrup and power. wonderful definition and heft.

I prefer the sound of a recorded V30 over a live one. That mid range crackle hump is a bitch
