Such a shame, he didn’t suss out a career more like Gary Moore’s, where he fronted his own band. Occasionally stepping in with a big band on an album here and there, but ultimately being his own man. You don’t necessarily get the smash shit like 1987, but you have a steady career and have more control of your destiny.

Well, there was Blue Murder....really great first album that wasn't supported very well by the label(who also had WS; John thought that had something to do with it), then a 2nd album that didn't do as well.
He fronted many Thin Lizzy reunion tours as well.
But, yes I agree that it is a shame he didn't do more. Just got tired of the business according to Trunk.

Yes on Blue Murder but I wish he had started after Tigers, maybe using Whitesnake like Moore did Lizzy in the 70’s, so he’s fairly established as a solo guy well before the 80’s were over.

He was actually on that path . But as stated in another thread he pretty much stepped away from it all in 2004

His solo albums are definitely worth checking out . Out Of My Tree and 20th Century are blazing hard rock . Nuclear Cowboy he kinda went the Jeff Beck route with electronic beats but it’s still his great guitar work on top of it . The hard to find Bad Boy Live is essential
