I curious as to who builds these cabinets and what their build quality is. How do they stand up to lower end cabs like Avatar and higher end cabs like Bogner?

Scott Splawn.i have a 4x12 w celestion v30s.i 'll never buy another brand of cab.

All built in house I have a 4-12 an have had a 2-12, GREAT cabs very well made

Scott and crew build them in house at his shop in North Carolina. They're not imported or farmed out to the same builder that builds all the other cookie cutter cabs on the market for other brands. There are no better cabs on the market IMO.

Thanks for the info, guys! Very grateful for your quick responses.

I'm currently running my Quick Rod through an open-back Avatar 2x12 with V30's but would really would like to pick up a matching Splawn 2x12 cab. Scott recommended one with Small Black speakers. What kind of difference can I expect between these two cabs?

Well first off expect a much tighter punchier low end and a smoother top end. I have 2 Splawn cabs, a 4x12 with sb's and a 2x12 with a govenor/man-o-war combo. I've played my quickrod through a few other cabs and can honestly say that the Splawn cabs a miles above the rest. They are SOLID...you can feel the quality just touching and lifting them

I'm sure they're great cabs. But I currently own a Bogner Ubercab and OS2X12 (I've had two of those) that pretty much destroy every other cab I've ever had or put them up against. In fact, at band practice last night me and the other player were A/B'ing my V30-loaded OS2X12 against his custom-built 2X12 loaded with Governors and mine just put his to shame. Sounde HUGE in comparison. So I'm having trouble believing that Splawn cabs are "miles above the rest" if Bogner, Mills Acoustics, Ear Candy, Diezel, some Mesa cabs, etc are considered to be "the rest".

Blowback from using comic book terminology to describe gear vs other gear.

Wow

General comment regarding how people use colorful terms to imply that there is some epic battle going on between inanimate objects/guitar gear.

Judging by some users on TGP, gear may very well be partaking in the most epic if battles.

You were also comparing Governors against V30s. I was looking for a pair of V30s a while ago. Couldn't find any, but I did find a pair of Governors for a good price. I hated them. They sounded like ass to me with the amps I have(one of them being a Splawn) and I think my amps sound great with V30s.

LOL... I suppose that my "destroy" comment was a bit 'comic book' as well. But I'm stickin' by the "put his to shame" and "sounds HUGE in comparison" comments...

Maybe so, but even if he'd had V30s in there, the OS Bogner cab would have still sounded MUCH fuller, fatter, and larger. Because the fact is, a big part of the magic that is those cabs is the extra spacial volume in there. Most 2X12s just don't have it.

I had a Splawn OS 2x12 cab and I believe they're built with the same specs as the Bogner OSes I've seen... nearly identical. I haven't compared them exactly side by side with the same speakers, but Splawn cabs are definitely some of the best cabs on the market

Gotchya... didn't even know that Splawn had OS2X12s. Very cool...

Thanks, everyone. I'll have to pay off the CC this month and will be ordering one next month!

I had a 2x12 and it was a very well built, good sounding cab....

There have been a lot of Splawn cabs for sale lately. I just sold a boa snake skin 4x12 on Saturday with my Quick Rod. I am not Splawnless though...

I've still got a black slant 4x12 with SB and it sounds great with my Axe Fx.

The coolest thing IMO about the Splawn cabs are that Scott will make it to order with a huge number of options of tolex, piping and grills.
