So the player has nothing to do with it?
:checkthisout:

0% on a 1 strum powerchord. Besides that? Of course.

Nope.

Malcolm will always sound better than me by just hitting a low E power chord.

Fact.

Good lord. I should've Clarified under high gain. For more dynamic playing like Malcolm yes technique is more obvious and crucial to the tone.

Just raise your white flag and move on.

Be all and end all CCV clip, this is why everyone wanted/wants a CCV. \m/

I think Brad just bought that first prototype back... maybe they will use that one as a model for some new production. they really should start making them again under a different brand, whatever, the CCV and the Atomica are great designs.

I believe it's Mark's playing too. I would love to see him get in a good band and get some tunes out.

I agree....maybe it's just Marks fingers with his amp... but this one sounds really, really good. That grind is intoxicating

It's not fingers. The crunch/grind/sustain just oozes outta that video on the simple powerchords. That's all amp/speakers/guitar/pickups.

Its all mostly in Mark's hands. Ive sat in a room with Mark a million times while he played and then I played the same amp, same guitar etc right after Mark and I sounded terrible. Mark like George Lynch, has amazing pick attack especially when they are playing chords.

When we did EVH's last rig, I plugged in and I sounded like me. When Eddie came down and played in a rehearsal room, I was like, AHHHH THERE'S THAT EVH TONE.

Stop speaking all that crazy talk and stop alienating all the gear hounds and marketing suckers.

That CCV belongs to Tony <RoidRage> or did as of a couple years ago.

Not unless he grabbed it from Metal Phoenix.

Does anyone know what the differences actually are between the pre and post Brad amps ? Besides the Metro loop, MIDI, and lack of Mercury Magnetic's transformers, what are the other less obvious differences ? That first clip kicks ass.

My Brad era CCV had Mercury Magnetics Transformers

I just watched the video again. Mark's pick attack is so awesome that he doesn't even need his right hand! @ :53 he obviously bar chords with his left forefinger and rakes his left middle finger across the strings. Even that chord sounds great and its all amp. His right hand is on the amp controls, lol.

OK so what guitar is that? I think Chub told the story once. I think he said its a partscaster. What pickups, body wood?

That amp was laid out on fibre board.

Back when everyone was on good terms, I took it down to Tone Merchants, and was going to let them use it as a proto for the Brad run.

The issue was, it was so scattered inside, that it wouldn't have been of any use.

The CCVs that Mark himself did were all a bit different, based on what he had laying around, and in my case, a few tweaks that I personally liked.

The first few (after the proto) were assembled by some woman that worked in the manufacturing field.

At one point, he even had some help (at different times) from Nick, and Kurt.

After Mark's deal went bad with Chris, he scavenged what he had left of their stock, to build them himself.

At one point, he had Jerry from Surreal assembling some boards, but Mark wasn't happy with that, so he went back to the one offs.

I know Mark is trying to get things going again with EXPCUSTOM from the board here, but they haven't updated their FB page since the middle of June...is there ANYONE with the knowledge of Mark's original design that could build a good copy ??? Jerry Dyer perhaps ? I've heard clips of all kinds of Mark modded stuff (Sovtek MIGs, Marshalls, that Standell he did a few years ago) and they all are the best rock tones I've ever heard (to me). That being said, I love my Atomica and Brad era CCV, but I'd like to find a pre Brad CCV and get a mini CCV or rackmount CCV made at some point...I don't think Mark will ever be solvent long enough to do it. Thanks to those in the know.
