T'was thinking.

Specifically 80's hair metal/glam/hair band era.

Your votes? Sykes? Lynch? Eddie? Mark Knopfner?

To keep it on topic lets discuss their gear too OK?

My favs of this era tone wise (which of course had a lot of mids) in this order right now looks like:

1.) Warren DeMartini (Ratt) - Marshalls then SLO

2.) Scotti Hill (Skid Row) - Marshalls

3.) Reb Beach (Winger) - Marshalls then Custom Audio

Special consideration to: Mick Marrs, Eddie Van Halen, C.C. DeVille, Joey Allen (Warrant), Steve Stevens, and shit Kirk & James, and Tom Scholz - even though those guys are not really glam.

just say'in

George Lynch, Tooth and Nail. Randall RG100ES heads and cabs, Furman PQ3 slamming the front of the amp.

Oh man..."Without Warning" is probably my favorite Dokken song. No shit.

When I first put that cassette in and cranked it up I about lost it.

Honky-ass mid tone? Nuno Bettencourt. In particular on the debut album.

Ed - I'm an Ed guy...can't, nor won't, deny it. his style and swing/shuffle is just killer. his bends and vibrato are sneaky good, and underrated IMO. but his mids just get on me... just so thick and sticky

Sykes - best vibrato in the buis...again my opine. but smooth, fat and warm mids.

Reb and Vitto - killer players, with lushes mids

Slash...pretty fat mids also (though i'm not a huge GNR fan, dude's tone was good) reminded more of a classic rock than glam-hair metal

Skid row was using Rivera’s?
For Slave to the Grind they did..Rivera M100s. Prior to that, Marshalls.

Extreme -Mutha came to my mind on this topic

So many to choose...
Lynch-ULAK
EVH-VH1, II, and Fair Warning
Warren DM...pretty much all Ratt albums

If I had to pick one, It’d be Ed’s sizzling mids/top end on the first album.

Jason Bieler from Saigon Kick.

Some great tones on The Lizard. I think he was using a Rivera.

I guess that's 90s though.

Best mids in 80's by a mile: Ronni LeTekro

Bump that 800Hz in front, then mellow it out some post-eq.

Best mids in 70's: Tom Scholz / Barry Goudreau

So raw. Almost to the extent of an audition.

Love to have that V.

Lynch under lock and key

But one of my favourite Marshall Mids
Is Demartinis Plexi on dancing undercover
IIRC he blew it up on that album
It was biased hot and they had fans running on it
But dear god that tone

He wanted to use it on Reach but it was fried
