It's so easy...VLAD!

Who or what is vlad?

Some say that Scott Splawn is his lover. Others contend that his amps play him. All we know is that he is...the Vlad!

I love how the OG crew gets the Vlad references.

Vlad’s weird mids are better than all!

Most Overdone Mids: Tom Scholz on that Rockman crap.
Best Mids: Warren DeMartini

Warren's great but his guitar tone became too "modern" sounding at least on the Detonator album.

That may be true. His tone in the 80's is more where I'm at. That said, you have to admit 'Shame, Shame, Shame' had a lot of nice mid growl. But 'Can't Wait on Love' is my favorite song off that spin.

Stephen has been looking better and singing pretty good lately.... seems he got it together and got off the meds. Still wish demartini would just join the band since he's out doing stuff with kings of chaos and sitting in with japanese girl bands etc... whatever

I have been a huge RATT fan since the early 80s and have watched the band's attempts to come back, etc. That vid is pretty impressive and Steven does finally sound like his old self again. My buddy wanted to go see RATT but I just can't see them without Warren. I have his signature guitar and he was one of my favorite guitarists when I was in high school. Seeing RATT without him is like seeing Metallica without James IMO. That guitarist they have now sounds great though.

Barry Goudreau/Tom Scholz, Brian May, Paul Kossoff, Michael Schenker, Mick Ronson, Luther Grosvenor, Randy Rhoads.

This is a challenging thing, I mean to pick...many great tones/inspiring players

EVH VHI, Fair Warning (still my “I want to be able to do that” player)
Lynch ULAK, Burning Like a Flame intro
Nuno Extreme, Porno got thick with “nicer” mids (still a great tone)
LeTekro 10000 Lovers, sometimes a bit too much high end sizzle for me though
Matthias Blackout, Love At First Sting
DeMartini OOTC, IOYP (best SLO tone)
Oz Fox/Sweet Soldiers Under Command (wicked mids)

Many others worth honorable mention...including Brian May, Tom Scholz

Does not compute.

No SLO on those recordings

Thought he was All Soldano?? Maybe it was later...my bad
Warren still had some sweet tones back then, IMO.

Those Charvels sure are nice, but personally i've always liked the way the top routed /w pickguard strats feel. Seem to resonate better at least for me.

Jose Marshall always a good thing.

I always thought Babylon AD had good up front, grindy mids. A band that doesn’t get talked about much, but I thought they were pretty good.

For me....

Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind/PowerSlave

Four Fifty-watt Marshalls with both EV speakers and Celestions. Guitars had Duncan Super Distortions. FET Power booster on the solos or for more grit.
Whilst the boys in the USA where scooping their mids, the Brits seemed to keep their mids. Martin Birch for me is a master of capturing the rock sound, the tom sound on these albums are also just insanely good.

Enchant - Blueprint of the World

It must be a Soldano or a hot-rodded Marshall with a super strat... not much information here. But the mids are there are are great. They cut when they need to and sink back in the mix during the big saturated bar chords.
