What guitarist from 1990-present has the best guitar tone.. Anything from classic rock to metal!!.. I would like to know what everyones opinion are in this..

My vote is Adam jones from TOOL. Something about his tone is amazing!!

1990 to present? Talk about weeding out all the great guitar tones. Great job man.

Well that is true. Just put who you think has the best minus a year!! I just put that because 22 years is a long time.. And I am really wanting to the best modern metal type of stuff. But anyone can put whatever want!! It's a free country!! So everyone please have at it!!!

Jerry Cantrell.......I'm on an AiC kick lately.

Adam Jones is a badass though.......nice and tight, always just on the verge of breakup......smaller when it needs to be and then huge and roaring right after that. I can't imagine Tool sounding half as good with anyone else. His tone complements his style perfectly.

Meshuggah on the NONE album. Possibly the best modern metal tone ever recorded and that was in '94.

Doug Aldrich, John Sykes and Steve Stevens
probably have my personal Favorite Tones.

Too many to choose from but I like Dino's tones quite a bit.

Very tight and compressed. Sounds like a Herbert or something on the newer Divine Heresey.

For a tone thats not so heavy I like Deatjspell Omegas newest release.

Amazing low gain/Marshallesque tone

Honestly.... I think Petrucci on everything (Except maybe Systematic Chaos). In particular I liked SFAM and FII.

I also love Dan Hawkins guitar on The Darkness' Permission To Land

Since the mid 90's Devin Townsend has been a mad Scienctist with recording, producing, getting different tones. I don't think there's anyone who's recorded such different sounding material. And I love his tones on his Accelerated Evolution CD.

He can go from this...

To THIS.

Rich Ward "The Duke of Metal" on Stuck Mojo's Declaration of a Headhunter, that album hit me like a ton of bricks the first time it came on my stereo. I kept thinking, how in the heck is Rich's guitar sounding like that..but that's tone baby! Since then I keep seeing these new albums coming out where people say, listen to this tone, best ever...but nothing to me has topped that 1999 record.

That is a great choice! Very out of the box of typical guys considered for great tone. Devin will always be in my top guitarist/musicians list. I loved his odd-ball tone on Terria too, something about that sort of wanky single coil strat tone with layers of echo just did it for me :) Accelerated Evolution had amazing tone as well, "Away"...common, one of the coolest instrumental tracks ever, so lush & ethereal.
Great pick! Now I must go listen to "Ghost"
