For solos, I've always really liked Richie Blackmore's tone.

Alex lifeson. Such an amazing array througout the ages (except when he hit his solid state years) but even now a days he is really playing some rich and heavy ass tone

Most of these have already been said, but some specific albums mentioned here..

Adam Jones
Dino Cazares - Demanufacture
Sepultura - Chaos AD
Arch Enemy - Doomsday Machine
Queens of the Stone Age
Alex Lifeson

cool guys keep them coming.. its awesome to see all these thoughts on this topic.. keep them coming.. speaking a jerry Cantrell that som many mentioned.. what amps did he use back in the day.. facelift, dirt, jar of flies era

Ty Tabor is one that hasn't been mentioned yet (I skimmed, so i could be wrong, hehe). Dogman is bad assery. But, i acknowledge that a huge part of the albums tone is doug's bass tone.

chris poland damn the machine
andy timmons
chris poland

Cantrell Aldrich Steve Stevens John Norum and even though im a roth era
Van Halen fan only. I think Eddie's tone on Carnal Knowledge album (91)
pretty damn good. And Schenker consistently has had great tone

and me of course!

Def Pauly

Mark Morton/Willie Adler, Mark Tremonti, Jim Root, Misha Mansoor/Jake Bowen, Adam D, Jochem Jacobs, Loomis, Alec "Acle" Kahney, Marc Okubo, Paul Waggoner, etc

On a more serious note. There are too many to list, but I would go with Jerry Cantrell, Adam Jones, Doug Aldrich especially on the Burning Rain stuff, John Petrucci on the earlier stuff, Warren Haynes, Jeff Loomis, John Sykes, and Mr. Scary on Wicked Sensation!!! Ty Tabor's tone is also awesome. I also kind of like Nuno's tone on Waiting For The Punchline and Reb Beach's tone on Dokken's Erase The Slate. So many to list!!! And you cannot forget about Mads Ericksen!!! His tone was awesome on Storyteller and on M.E.!!

Rich Ward "The Duke of Metal" on Stuck Mojo's Declaration of a Headhunter, that album hit me like a ton of bricks the first time it came on my stereo. I kept thinking, how in the heck is Rich's guitar sounding like that..but that's tone baby! Since then I keep seeing these new albums coming out where people say, listen to this tone, best ever...but nothing to me has topped that 1999 record.

+100. Rich's tone back then was unfuckingreal. My band opened for them on this tour and his tone was killing live. Just as good as the record.
