I've had a short experince with a Deliverance and a CL100 in the past and I really dug them, beats me why I never owned a vht amp until now.
Finally got me a used CL50 with GEQ last night, WOW what A killer amp!
I was comparing it with my Mark V, I liked that the CL was easier to dial in great tones from the start, and it just sounds more massive and raw. Even sounded great without the GEQ engaged, but I really liked how the GEQ makes the amp tight and aggressive sounding for heavy rhythm playing. I still love my V but the CL really impressed me, and rather curious about the UL and the SigX as well.

I know vht amps used to get alot of love from early 2000 along with with their poweramps, but I don't hear much about them nowadays, and thier used prices are killer now.
I wonder why, I think the name change probably confused alot of people? who here plays VHT amps?

I also have a fatbottom 412 and a D 412.... prefer the D cab with both heads

Nice! I was super impressed when I played a Deliverance60 thru the matching cab for the first time. It had this addicting immediate attack to the sound that I've never felt from other amps before. Lack of FX loop was the only issue for me, I knew it could be modded to have one installed on, but then being a gear whore I kinda forgot about the amp and moved onto something else.:(

I've got a Pittbull Classic, the lead channel is pretty unique and definitely fills niche tones, the clean channel took me 3 years to figure out though. With the treble rolled all the way off and the bright switch on it sounds awesome

I've been eyeing VHT/Fryette amps on eBay/CL for a while now. I know Page Hamilton and his band use them in Helmet. Saw them live and those Pittbulls have a noticeable bark to them.

I wanted to buy one that goes half power I think the 100 CL does that. But I've never played one. They're supposed to be tight/dry (maybe like Mesa Mark series?) They seem to have tons of options like both series and parallel loops. I think that 50 CL has a recto tube but the 100 CL does not.

CLX100 through a Diesel 4x12 loaded with a mix of V30 and G12K-85. Sounds glorious to me...

Just read a forum review that VHT amps are tight/stiff and don't have the gain saturation that Marshalls have (he said they're the "opposite" of marshalls). Is this true?

I have an Ultra Lead on the way and am a former CL100 owner.

The CL100 crushed everything in its path. A seriously beast of an amp but did take a while to tweak that perfect tone. I can't wait until the UL gets here.

I think the name change did have something to do with the lack of populairty as far as attracting new users but that is just my opinion.

I have heard many people say they did not like VHT amps and that they sounded like shit and I say to that: user error. I needed much more than 10 minuted with it to get what i wanted.

Also they are very unforgiving amps and I guess alot of people do not like that.

As far as tight/stiff and not like a marshall. I do not know what to say.

My pitbull did not sound like any Marshall I have ever heard and actually ate Marshall's for breakfast (here comes the Marshall train to kill me now) unless you have a Fortin modded Marshall or something crazy like that but IMO it is an entirely different amp and opinions will vary. Apples vs. Oranges,

Tight = Yes

Stiff = my weener after playing a VHT yes.

Let me know how you like the UL, would love to try one myself.

Actually the name change has something to do with Steve Fryette selling the name and not being able to get it back. This company who bought the VHT name are making/selling budget line tube amps with the exact same VHT logo(don't know if they are still in business now).
There was a whole story and threads on that issue years ago, but I have a vague memory of what happened exactly.

Looks like they are still in business, http://vhtamp.com/

I have and love a UL with 4x12 FB cab. VHT became Fryette http://fryette.com/. Vht is a different company now and while the amps look similar they are nothing like the Fryettes.

Yea, I am not sure about the inside details. Maybe for money, maybe for civil purposes, idk

There is a thread over at fryette-users.com announcing the change.

The only info it really gave is that Steve felt that his newer designs finally captured what he was looking for and that he had been wanting his name on his amps for a long time and finally felt comfortable doing so.

I personally think the VHT logo was killer and cooler and much more memorable of a brand but they are his amps not mine.

I would not care if the badges said cock smoker or property of gay man because the amps are that good to me.

I probably wouldn't use mine live if it said "Property of Cock Smoking Gay Man" on it. I've got plenty of amps that don't say that, so , sorry steve.

Isn't that what your wooden mesa amp says?

Jk. I would probably not keep that badge either.

It was merely a metaphor for Fryette's killing shit no matter what they say on them.

Congratulations, its a great amp. I love my VHT 50 CL w EQ +Rev and FB cab.

I personally love the clarity of them. They are unforgiving so if you have ant slop in your technique it certainly will be audible so perhaps that is why some folks don't get along with them.

old VHT = good stuff

new VHT = not so good stuff

Fryette = same good stuff as old VHT stuff ;)

I had a 50CL for a while, loved it. I dumped my 3ch dual recto as soon as I got the 50CL H/S.

Save up and watch for a good deal on your CL for an FB412 cab. The VHT FB cabs are where its at if you want that VHT tone. A lot of that has to do with the P50E speaker.

I know have a UL/FB combo and couldn't be happier. The 50CL and UL are like a mesa single recto and a Road King. The UL is considerably more aggressive with many more features. The 50CL is more like a CLX. It's the KT88 power section that separates the UL from the other VHT's.

Had a 50CL without an EQ!! great amp, but wanted something a little different so I sold it and saved for a used Bogner XTC 101B. I should of bought the 100CLX instead of the 50CL.

Want an slo but can't afford it? Get a vht deliverance. Clear, powerful and all the gain you need. Marshall if you want or modern by twisting the gain knobs. I have a 60 and a 120 is in my future. Through G12 65s. Great amps and I love Marshall's..

UL, CL100, Sig:X
Brilliant brilliant amps.
Very unforgiving but stellar note clarity with tons of gain.
They won't suit everyone but I certainly love mine.

The P50 speakers are an important ingredient but I've found the UL & CL also work great with M75 Scumbacks
