Middle Eastern oud players palmuted for 2000 years now . I went deep in playing like them on guitar for a different flavor . They would om their open low nights like we do now

I'd say the first true "heaviest mute known to man" was Hetfield on "The Thing That Should Not Be". That still sounds heavy as shit and I was 16 when that came out.
