Who is tired/sick of changing strings?

Yeah I am @ 70 guitars and I HATE CHANGING STRINGS!!!!! Especially on floating trem guitars. Just did a change on my Steinberger that I have had forever the strings must have been 10 years old. Those are real easy to do. Double ball ends what a breeze. My Parker Fly is pretty easy to with those locking tuners. At least I just use .09 and .10's. Last but not least at least our strings are cheap compared to Bass strings.

I dont really hate it, but I dont go out of my way to do it

I probably only do mine every 6 months or so. I think if I only had 1 guitar I would change them more.

One reason why I have tried to reduce the number of guitars I have. I am down to 4 I think. (Used to have 10+). When it feels like I spend more time maintaining them than playing them, then I know it is time to go.

I never used Elixirs until I bought my first Suhr Modern from a member here. I like the strings he had on there so much that I asked him what they were. I've strung all my guitars with Nanowebs ever since.

I was wondering the same thing. I got a Suhr Modern and wondered what strings were on it, I really liked them, but the guy I got it from did not know. On the build sheet it just said the gauge, not what they are. actually called Suhr to find out and they said it could have been one of a few different brands!!! Maybe they were the Elixir. They were like no string I have ever played before.

Dude...70 guitars???

I can't even imagine...

i dont change strings often at ALL....until i HAVE to.
im lucky, i dont have highly acidic sweat like some of my other friends.

that being said, i noticed with dean markely blue steels (used em for about 18 years or since they came out in like 95 or 96!) that after about 2 months of normal playing around the house i would get about 6 weeks or so out of them b4 they started to show corrosion at the bridge, and about 3 weeks b4 they started getting dull sounding. on a gigging/practicing guitar that time was significantly shortened. the blue steels lasted the longest out of all the strings i tried over the years.

no more!

i switched a few guitars over to the ernie ball cobalts this summer, and they're all still going strong, bright and fresh sounding and feeling. i think i found a new string!!!!!

food for thought for my brethren and sisters that hate changing strings (i actually like that side of playing though).

like most others, I HATE stringing guitars. I always clean the fretboard, lube the saddles and nut, and intonate with every string change. then there is the wait for the strings to settle in to deal with. as a result, the guitars tone tends to go dead before I do what I should have done a month earlier.

Suhr stopped using them a while back for some reason.

I also hate the brightness of new strings on an electric... but on my acoustic, there is nothing better than a fresh set right out of the pack

I love the sound of fresh strings after a few days but I absolutely dread changing them. With a 6 year old and an 11-month baby I barely have time to play anymore let alone change strings.

How is adjusting the pickup height the worst part? That's the easiest of all the things you listed!

Try elixir Nanowebs and you won't have to change as often. They won't feel dead and crusty like EBs after a month.

I am actually wondering why a string change requires a pickup height adjustment..

Given my strings only get change about once a year I don't mind doing it

Once a year!!!!!!????!!??!?!?!? Insanity!!!!

well like others I have about 20 gtrs so yeah i'm to cheap to change them often ...... also half of them have stainless steel strings which pretty much last forever

I don't change my strings often at all, I like them to sound worn in a bit, not as bright. My strings seem to stay in good shape, no corrosion for a long time, so I am lucky that way. I have also started putting planet waves auto trim tuners on my guitars it takes about 5 min to change strings with them!! Best tuners ever!!! I can't seem to live with non locking tuners because of how much longer string changes take, but with the planet waves you don't even need clippers to trim the strings.

I every changing strings about every 6 months. Considering that I have about a dozen guitars, this means changing strings a few times a month. It does it old fast. Some are worse to change than others. I keep a card in the case and an excel spreadsheet so I know when I last changed the strings, oiled the fretboard, tweaked the setup, etc. May sound overkill, but once you start tracking if you may be amazed at how long you go between string changes or how quickly.

It doesn't, but I always think I can get things sounding just a little bit better.

I have heard about the corrosion on strings. Is it from certain peoples hand sweat, or living near saltwater? I have heard some people say their strings are corroded after just one gig or sit down playing, how is this possible?

Could be both. I know the last time I went to Hilton Head Island beach I took an acoustic with new strings on it, and by the end of the week they were rusty. It was extremely hot and humid that week.
