I REALLY want to try a Swamp Thang.

I would also like to try the Manowar, the Red Ryder, The Tone Spotter, and the Red fang.

Does anyone have opinions on any of these???

BTW, I'm not loyal to any one speaker company. I think they all make something for everybody.

I really like my Eminence P50E's though

swamp thang is a brootal speaker. sounds great for american-voiced amps, but not so much with british voiced ones. it has a gigantic sound, very powerful with a huge, tight bottom, dark but big mids, and fendery-like highs. sounds great in fender amps, traynor YCV40/80 amps, and i'd imagine it would absolutely slay in a recto. sounds bad with peavey classics, decent with JCM800s. adds a unique, and imho, fantastic voice for metal. they mix wonderfully with celestion V30s, as they are sort of the polar opposite.... sort of.

the red fang is a lot like a blue. never directly A/B'd the two, but it is close. nice and sparkly with fantastic harmonics.

oh yeah,
currently using a commonwealth. neato speaker. unique voice; sort of adds a hiwatt kind of sound, but in a slightly american sort of way... if that makes sense.

dammit. I guess I have to buy one, or four.

they are heavy, like, several pounds each. probably make it hard to lift a 4x12 with them.

How much?

Accepting trades? I have some V30s, some WGS CL80's, others possible too.

Swamp Thangs have a 2" voice coil and defenantly got an old school American vibe, really strong low end and not much mids and has a super sweet sounding top end. by themselves they are really fun to play on if you're into feedback like old Ted Nugent, they'll get to squelling but stay easy to control. if you're into old Southern rock or Nugent these could be a stand alone, if not it's probably better used mixed with something to add low end. i really liked these with my Triple Recto, had them in the bottom cab and Governors on top.

Manowars have fuck tons of screaming high mids and are kindda picky about what amps they'll get along with. can be used to compensate for a low voiced amp. after i've played the living shit out of them, they seem to be better about getting along with amps, either that or i've killed my high end hearing, maybe both?

both can be a little amp picky, but i'm a goofy bastard and like them both, just would say look before you leap if you're Celestion guy. especially with the Manowar.

I am very curious how you think the EVM12L compares to the EV Force 12.

I am very curious how you think the EVM12L compares to the EV Force 12.

I've owned 5 or 6 EVM12L's, an EVM12S, and a Force.

The way I see it, the different EVM12L's sound just as different as a force and a 12L, to my ears at least.

If anything, the force is slightly warmer, and lighter weight. Pretty awesome.

Whut?

I bought a pair of Delta Pro A's like 10 years ago when EV first discontinued the M12L's. And I must say they have aged very well. They're a sleeper, if you want EV tone without spend close to 300 bones on a new speaker you can't really beat'em. I never A/B'd them against EVM12L till like a few years ago. IMO and with the well broke in Delta's I find them a warmer and not as sterile as the EV's. Nice neutral speaker that lets the amps EQ and power section speak.

i have a marshall 1936 with a private jack and cannibis rex paired together. i absolutely LOVE this cab and combo with my JVM and JMP-1. it's "woody" and full and has a tight bottom with a lot of room for thump to be dialed in with the resonance knob. highs are smooth and the mids are super thick if you put a clean boost in front of a british-voiced amp. very GB/H30 sounding, but with more power handling capacity.

i also own a recto 2x12 w/UK V30s, two marshall 1960s w/T75s and two line 6 SV 4x12 cabs with V30s and T75s and nothing sounds as pleasing to my ear as that 1936.
