Who first made you want to play?

For me, it was Ace Frehley. Kiss Alive had just came out and that was that.

Roy Clark and Buck Owens on Hee Haw. Saw them at 5 yo...and wanted to shred it like those guys. The eventualllity was the EVH swing and shuffle was just too good and hooked me a few years later.

+100
I was listening to Kiss before I went to school.
I remember first grade show and tell.
Other kids bringing in stuffed animals and whatnot.
I brought in my Kiss records. And yes...
The teacher played them.

Richie Sambora - it was 1986 and I was 8 years old when I first heard Livin on a Prayer. Totally blew me away

You are going to laugh... Mick Jones. Jukebox Hero made me want to play guitar.

Steve Clark and i had read he liked Jimmy Page so i looked him up and was pretty well decided then. Also a bit of Randy Rhoads...

One more vote for Ace Frehley. Dirty Dan from the Sha Na Na tv show was actually an inspiration too

Iommi. I heard Iron Man when I was about 10 and then my mission was to be able to make that sound.

The Beatles made me love music, and right after Paul and Ace made me love guitars!

James Hetfield.

When I got my first copy of No Life til Leather, I was blown away. Had never heard anything like it and knew I wanted to know how to make those sounds!

Hetfield is probably still my biggest influence, but there are a LOT of others who have influenced my playing along the way.

First song I learned to play was lonely is the night by Billy Squire... so billy made me

I used to raid my mom's old CDs to play on my stereo, and eventually found the first EVH album at age 12. That was the first time I had heard the guitar be so up front in the music. Once I figured out it was the guitar making that sound, I thought, if I get a guitar, I'll be able to do that too? That's rad! Later I bought some magazines, found out about his gear and variacs and flangers and amp slaving and down the rabbit hole I went. After that Hetfield, Hendrix, and Iommi. Many others followed since then. I currently have the playing ability of a NY subway guitar hobo, but I can afford nice stuff, so that counts too I think.

Same here

Page>Hendrix>Iommi initially but didn't touch my first guitar until years later. Then it was split between Rhodes and Malmsteen at which point I finally got my first guitar.
