Hetfield.

My friend played me Sad But True at a local record store in town when I was 12. That was that. Candle lit...

You are going to laugh... Mick Jones. Jukebox Hero made me want to play guitar.

+1

Hey I was 10 years old, you can't blame me. I still like the damn song though. Lol.

The first "guitar band" that I liked, at age 5, was KISS. Although, I didn't have much concept of the sound they were getting and what was specifically guitar. Besides the obviously catchy "Rock and roll all night" (which I thought just meant dancing and playing music), my favorite songs were "God of Thunder" and "Detroit Rock City". I used to play 45s of them on a Mickey Mouse record player. :D

Later when I had a better concept of what role guitar played in a song, Foreigner was one of my favorites. Van Halen came a bit later. I had their first album but it grabbed me as a little too messy sounding at the time. I thought there were interesting effects on the guitar and wondered about how fast it was played or if that was a synth (how could a guitar player play that fast? That must be a keyboard with distortion!) ;)

I heard Heading out to the Highway by Priest....soon after an Arbor guitar from the Sears catalog was on its way. Lol

I played the baddest ass Air Guitar to Kiss Alive. Nobody had my moves :D

First guitar was a shit plank from Montgomery Wards. Took some lessons and I still recall, how in the hell would I get from House of the Rising Sun to Deuce and Hotter than Hell?.....

Not long after that, I realized a lady from down the block worked for Gibson and got me a discounted deal on a Gibson L6 which was a 2nd. It was down the rabbit hole after that.

After Ace, it was Eddie and then Metallica came along and that was it.

For me, it was Ace Frehley. Kiss Alive had just came out and that was that.

The Beatles made me love music, and right after Paul and Ace made me love guitars!

Yep and yep.

Then Page and Eddie

My older brother moved his room to the basement. He would have his friends over and I heard a guitar and saw one of his buddies paying along to ( i did not know at the time) Quiet Riot Metal Health on a Washburn guitar through a Peavey Renown combo. Man...I was 7 years old and was just mesmerized. I think they were pretty stoned and I was invited to check it out. He showed me an E chord and that was it.

1984 by Van Halen really opened up my ears to music. Although, it wasn't until 1986 that I saw Tesla on their 1st album/tour Mechanical Resonance. Frank & Tommy blew me away.

What sealed the deal was Tesla was opening DLR on Eat 'em & Smile... Two words, Steve Vai. That is still probably the most amazing show I've ever seen. My eyes were opened (got my 1st guitar shortly thereafter) & the power of the riff continues to compel me. \,,/

I had been scratching around on an acoustic guitar for a little bit. Then in 1974 a friend took me to see Rush opening for Kiss. Rush opened with "Finding My Way" and by the time they got to the chorus of that song, I was hooked. I bought a Les Paul copy a day later.

James Hetfield then Dimebag Darrell. Got my 1st guitar on my 13th Birthday along with PanterA Far Beyond Driven.

James and Kirk when I was 14. I watched the Binge and Purge VHS tapes just about everyday.

This thread is turning into a petition for a Hetfield signature amp. Am I right?

I was six and it was 1970. My favorite bands were Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin..... So I guess Jimmy and Tony ? But I'm sure the Beatles, Stones and Pink Floyd had something to do with it.

Angus Young

"For Those About To Rock" Album. I was nine. Didn't start to play until much later, but that started it for me.
