Who made you.....?

Glen Campbell on his show The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour. Never learned any of his stuff and was never really a fan...but he inspired me to go upstairs and pull that Yamaha gut string out from under my Dad's bed (complete with Mel Bay book of course).

My first guitar hero was George Harrison.

Geddy Lee got me started on bass.

Then Walter Trachsler got me into guitar.

I bet none of these guitarists thought back then that they would inspire players for decades to come.

I like Ace's quote: "If I had known I would be such an influence, I would have practiced more".

Ace on Alive II... and Roy Clark from watching He Haw, Glen Campbell, and the fucking Monkees believe it or not...lol

Jimmy Page after seeing The Song Remains The Same.
I purchased a guitar and amp a couple weeks later.

You are going to laugh... Mick Jones. Jukebox Hero made me want to play guitar.

+1

Hey I was 10 years old, you can't blame me. I still like the damn song though. Lol.

Glad to know I am not the odd man out. I was a little older than you but not much - born in 1969. Later, it was ZZ Top and Jake E Lee. Bark At The Moon introduced me to Ozzy and then it was over. :) I was officially a metalhead.

Yay walter!

He's a good dude and with a killer ESP Star collection.

Ace then EVH for me.

AC/DC, Guns, Metallica, Megadeth, Nirvana when i was 11yo.
But the 2 albums really make me love the guitar been Eric Clapton Unplugged and Extreme III Sides of Every Story, both come out the same year (1992)when i was 13yo.

Alex Lifeson...2112 and Moving Pictures made me want to learn how to play guitar.

For me, it was Ace Frehley. Kiss Alive had just came out and that was that.
There's no denying Ace had a huge impact on me. I think a lot of it was KISS was at the forefront of "spectacle rock" back then, so they were all over - the TV - the radio - the music stores - their image "sold", so they were everywhere. I thought they were the coolest fkn thing ever... And ya, I wanted to be Ace, have a Les Paul with flames shooting out of it, and a stage with pyrotechnics blasting every few minutes.

Ace connected my head with "rock and guitar", and after that, a lot of other influences came in for sure. But Ace and rock'n'roll and guitar were the pivotal influence in my early years 100%.

(Randy Rhoads came along and shot everything to pieces not long after I realized how "cool" guitar was....)

I listened to Sabbath, Hendrix, Alice, T-Rex, Frank Marino, Trower, Bowie, Sweet, etc. when I was in elementary school because one of my friends had a stoner big brother that turned me on to the music. Kids my age were listening to the Archie's and the Carpenter's on AM pop radio and I was jamming to metal, doom and glam rock on albums in a room with black lights and posters   . So, all of them to some extent.
