The Beatles

When I was a kid, my parents gave me a choice: piano or guitar lessons. As a kid, I thought The Beatles played guitar, so that's what I wanted.

In retrospect, I wish I'd picked piano. :(

Definitely would have been cheaper, that's for sure!

George Harrison and Jim Messina (Poco) convinced me to pick up guitar. Once I started, they combined with Dickey Betts, Duane, Tony Iommi, all combined ton influence the directions I took.

Rick Springfield....this is no joke! Jesse's Girl blew me away at 11 years old! :D

Friggin Angus man! Cousin had 8-tracks of dirty deeds, high voltage I think, and sabbath masters of reality. It was all over.

yeah Ritchie is one of those guys who sounds like no one else.....his playing always mesmerised me with how relaxed and fluid it is (while still be sloppy enough to sound almost human)

This guy when I first heard Alive in 1976 prior to Destroyer being released!!!

KoRn's first album was my gateway into metal and sparked an interest in learning an instrument. But it wasn't 'til I heard Roots that I said "I want to play guitar". Andreas Kisser was the first player that got me interested and then Dimebag nailed it for me. Shortly after that I got into Hanneman/King and then Fredrik Thordendal.

Ace, it was 85 and I'd already been listening to stuff like Quiet Riot, Def Leopard, Motley etc and a friend gave me Kiss Alive II, just the first half LOL and that did it.

After that I had to have a guitar and then came Randy.

James Hetfield.

When I got my first copy of No Life til Leather, I was blown away.

Have never heard this before and am just now listening for the first time and I am blown away. Old Metallica was so awesome.

As far as who...I guess my stepbrother. He played a little, had a couple of guitars laying around the house and I just started playing them one day.

I'm only 28 but the first time i heard Zakk wylde play on the No more Tear record. That blew me away.

For me, it was Ace Frehley. Kiss Alive had just came out and that was that.

my neighbor and best friend growing up.

Uli Roth, Alex Lifeson and Randy Rhodes made me want to play better.

One guy made me want to play guitar...Gary Richrath...this was a few years before I ever heard of EVH
I wore out their live album You Get What You Play For. I still bust out Flying Turkey Trot when testing amps.  But they were a band that quickly went to a place I wished they never did. They were getting softer and I was...not.

Shenker-> Roth-> Blackmore-> Beck-> Moore.

I probably have .0001% of their talent though...

The Ozzy Tribute Album was the one that did it for me. I found the Tape on the ground one day (yeah seriously, wtf throws that out) and stuck it in the tape player and was floored when i heard it. The labels were worn off and it took a bit to figure out who it was, once Ozzy started singing i knew who he was, but i was not sure about the guitar player. I listened to that Tape till it wore out and shortly after that got a CD player...
