So i scored the first year Mesa Solo 50 series 1 single Rectifier. I have a 3 channel DR thats a beast, Ive had the MK IV & MK III and plenty of Marshalls modded and stock.
Been decades since ive owned a 50 watt head. Got to open it up at rehearsal today/Jeebus, fugging Beastly for sure.
Can do the Recto thing, can do a very Marshally kinda gain. 25 pounds lighter than any of my 100 heads.
Sounds great, easy to carry.
Fills out the rehearsal space like a 100 watt.
If i didn't know it was a 50 i would likely have thought its a 100 watt head.
What a great amp, its a keeper.

Interesting. I haven't played a Rectifier in years and always wondered if it could thump and punch without the Mark Graphic EQ's or a Resonance knob. Good to know.

Glad you pulled the trigger. I've been running EL34s in mine for quite some time. Now back to 6L6s. Curious as to your thoughts against your 3ch DR.

Welcome to da club

My 3 channel DR is brutal absolutely crushing. Last time i opened it up playing there were ceiling tile particals on top of the head.
But today i noticed the same particles on top of the 50.
Anyone of these amps could be a number one.
I had 6L6 in my DR, then put in EL-34's which sounded great. Then went back to 6L6 and it ws like Fuuuuuuuuuuu-k
The 6L6's have been there since.
I use the older Sovtek 6L6WXT+'s.
Mesa makes a mean amp.

It was a big thing everyone putting the EL34s in them back in the day. I always liked the fuller 6l6 tone

Ya, for the so called british crunch. And yet it still sounds completely american... not that that is a bad thing.

These days with all the PA stuff available you really don't need a 100 watter unless you're playing next to a fighter jet that's taking off.

I have a Marshall JVM 205h that’s 50 watts and love it, sounds amazing.

I think the general population does not correctly corolate wattage to volume. it's headroom.

I don't think many would run into a headroom issue at 50 watts though, or at least if you did it's not in an optimal situation.

The single rec I had in the early 00s sounded decent enough but fell apart at volumes over 90dbs; the low end flubbed out so I offed it

Yes that was my situation as well. Loved the tone the single Rec. but I was using It to push two 4x12 cabs. Kinda flubbed out when cranking it to keep pace with my drummer. Lower volumes it sounded excellent for sure though.

Same here. Loved the tone but seemed to start farting out at band volumes. The only 50 watt head I've ever noticed headroom issues with, but if OP is good to go, I'm happy for him!

What? The Single is like 7 pounds lighter than the Dual. Congrats on the purchase. The Single is a cool little amp.

That was my experience as well. It definitely has its place for recording though.
