Who owns a Carbon copy delay?

I bought one to use with my pedal rig and it was highly touted on the net as being able to be used in front of an amp or in the loop. I have to say that it sounded like shit in front of the amp. Has anyone else had a similar experiance or Is it pilot error on my part?

With that said, What was really surprising to me is that my old Boss Delay sounded killer in front of the amp and literally pissed on the Carbon copy. Maybe the Carbon copy has to go somewhere else in the signal chain? I had it at the end of the chain and the boss sounds killer in that location whereas the Carbon copy sounds like hammered shit.

Anyway if anyone has used this successfully in front of an amp I'm all ears otherwise it's up for sale because the Boss handles what I need

I have great success with it in front of my JTM45 but I run the amp real clean. In front of gain, delay's typically don't sound good.

I run the CC in the loop of my 800 and it sounds fantastic. I'm not sure what to tell you regarding you're rig. If the Boss works keep using it. I use a DD-5 on my small board and it always sounds great as well.

I like that it's dark, it hides nicely behind the tone and just provides some grease to get rid of the dries, I just leave it on subtly all the time, I prefer it to reverb. You may want a second delay that you like to kick on for solos.
Nothing wrong with having 2 delays....just like having 2 distortion pedals.

Thanks so much! I was hoping that you would chime in because it seems as if you have the pedal based rigs down cold! The new rig sounded KILLER last night and I was really happy. I was just surprised that the old Boss Delay (dd3) which is not usually known to sound good in front of an amp out performed the CC pedal! I'll more then likely hold on to the carbon copy and I'll use it with another rig that has a loop.

I would normally agree with you but I was really surprised that my Old boss sounded great! Weird! I guess it works better with the pedals I was using ?

I own both and run them up in front. With the CC it is true bypassed and likes a buffer in front of it somewhere depending on what else is in front of it. But, try turning the mix down a bit. You don't need much wet with the dry to get nice wide sound.

The DD3 does react a little different. But, I run them both near the end of the signal chain, which is simple. Wah, Boost, Phase, Delay, Flanger then through the RJM Y-not to split to two heads. There is a buffer in the Y-not and a phase reverse.

It should sound great at the end of the chain after the distortion pedals. I set the mix around 10 -11 O'clock. Keep the repeats low. Once you get the mix to 12:00 O'clock or higher it starts getting overpowering.

It's vintagey sounding...and maybe you're not a vintagey guy.

Ralph, just in general... where is the delay in your fx setup? I'd put it after everything else in the chain if it's going in the front of the amp, but I've never had *any* delay work well with high gain if it's coming from the amp because everything gets smeared all to shit. Now, if you're running a lower gain amp and your signal path is basically 'boost or overdrive pedal into a delay' then that is somewhat doable.

I personally can't stand a freaking delay pedal in the front at all and have to have em in the loop. I have a TC nova repeater that I paid around $100 used and it freaking KILLS in the loop of everything I've tried it in. I also have a Boss DD20 that sounds grainier and does more of an analog thing, again in the loop. Both pedals can be set to line level as most loops require.

I love analog delay. But sometimes I just like a good digital delay better. It depends on what I'm playing. Sometimes the digital delay, with perfectly clean repeats, sounds better for what I'm playing. Other times I like the analog repeats.

Yeah, I had the mix up at first and then I put the Mix really low. My signal chain was
chorus,flanger,Bad Monkey,Blackstar DISTX,Decimator Noise reduction, Delay. The Boss at the end sounded killer but When I swapped it out for the CC it sounded like crap IMHO. I guess I'll have to fine tune it!!

It's dead last in the chain. With that said, Ive always hated delay before an amp but I was surprised by my old boss. Id still prefer to use is in the loop but the studio that Im rehearsing at doesn't have many amps with a loop.
I just got so used to playing with delay or verb that I wanted just a little grease when playing.

I love analog delay. But sometimes I just like a good digital delay better. It depends on what I'm playing. Sometimes the digital delay, with perfectly clean repeats, sounds better for what I'm playing. Other times I like the analog repeats.

I think some experimentation is what I need!

I only put together this pedalboard so that I can get my sound anywhere. I have to tell you that it worked like a charm last night and I had the Letekro Tone in spades last night for some tunes.....So much so that the other guitar player had tears in his eyes from laughing so loud

If you are getting that then there is definitely something in my signal chain that Aint jiving with the pedal. I could live with that sound with just a hint more delay. Back to the drawing board!
With that said, My first pick was the Malekko Ekko 16 and Im starting to think that was more my speed
