Absolutely remember that, 16 years old at the time.

Imo, this kills anything out today. The music spoke for itself, they weren't trying to be hard tough guys.
Nowadays, you have to be yelled at by some jerkoff with a mic to show you how tough they are.

I always wanted this whole video ( Metallica's set ) from day on the green.
 
Such a shame there isn't more pro-shot footage of Metallica from 85-87..
 
Saw them open for Ozzy's Ultimate Sin tour in early 86' at the Worcester Centrum. I'll never forget it. The had absolutely amazing energy and and they were loud as hell. I remember them doing 'the thing that should not be' and the damn centrum walls, seats, and crowd heaved and shook with the heaviness of the riffs. Unreal. Also remember Jake E Lee getting pulled into the crowd while letting people touch the headstock of his guitar while playing 'I dont know'. Body guards broke up the malaise and propped him back up on stage after about a 5 minute drum and bass clap along. When he finally got his guitar back from the mob, he started back into the opening riff, but his Charvel was horribly out of tune! He took it off and threw it across the stage,,,,the sound it made when slamming into whatever it did was like an ice pick in everyone's ears.
Unforgettable night. Metallica blew doors. Ozzy actually was very good too, but Metallica with Cliff was just unstoppable. I liken it to when Van Halen opened for Sabbath. It was very clear as to who the better band was that night!
 
I was there!!! I went with a friend and his older brother, I didn't even know who Metallica was!! We went to see the Scorpions, I was 11 years old. At the time, it was kind of scary, I remember seeing super drunks dudes, and people smoking weed, and thinking to myself, "these people are taking drugs and they are crazy!!!!" Before this, I had only been to Huey Lewis and the News, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers together in concert, etc.

Hell yes! Saw the same tour at the Capital Centre in MD. Ozzy's band was as good as they could be but wow Metallica was melting faces the entire time they were on stage.
 
DOG was the second time I saw Metallica in 85 , the first time being ealrier in the year at the Kabuki nightclub in SF and they gig was awesome . They went over really good at DOG but their sound was pretty muddy

Edit-DOG is short for Day On The Green
 
The first two songs of the show with the 3rd being FWTBT that the OP posted. Metallica probably could have headlined an arena in the Bay Area at this point in their career

Man I so wanted to go to that show but couldn`t due to having to work. At the time I could have gave a rats ass about Ozzy I`d already seen him 3x by then , heck I`d already seen Metallica 2x but MOP was in my heavy rotation at that point. Still kinda bums me out
 
Was only 8 when that happened but I started to listen to Metallica and Iron Maiden when I was 10-11 and once the Cliff 'em all video hit, I had a chance to see this. Awesome stuff!
 
I miss when bands were like bands in the 80's and 90's. There was so much attitude and artistry. What the hell happened?
