Ok, so I have had a few Camerons , they were awesome, I had a Splawn and it was pretty cool too. I am thinking of having a 76 JMP 4 holer modded. it has already been hacked on with extra holes etc so please, no need for the battle cry for saving it's originality.

I pretty much go for the Lynch, Schenker, Malmsteen, Early VH, Aldrich type of tones. I have a couple of other Marshalls that work great with a boost, but I figure it may be fun to have this modded.

I am considering.

Soldano
Dave Friedman
Martin Golub
Voodoo

Any input or other suggestions would be great.

Thanks,

Jason

hopefully i'll know how good Martin Golub is by the end of next week?

i sent one to them awhile back. last word i got was maybe i'd get the amp back by middle of next week?

I'd go Dave Friedman at this point. Martin Golub is said to have done the Marshall that Doug Aldrich is using on the newest Whitesnake CD and after hearing the CD about 10 times...... I can't believe how bad Dougs tone is on much of it. Hopefully Capulin will have a different experience.

man, i hope it turns out good?

i'm getting the Lead mod, which is supposed to be the Doug thing?

Martin has a fairly decent list of players, so hopefully the amp isn't at fault on the album?

Doug's tone on that album sounds like if you took Kim Thayil from Soundgarden's rig and tried to sound like Sykes. It is so sludgy, and fuzzy and just a big wall of mush........ On a couple of tunes it sounds like Doug let the production breathe a little bit and used way fewer rhythm tracks and his tone sounds WAY better on those. But for the most part, that album sounds like there are 8 rhythm guitarists in the room, the drummer sounds like he is 100 yards away and the bass player might be in there somewhere under the guitars. Oh and Coverdale? It sounds like they didn't have any mics left after micing all the guitarists cabs and so the singer is just belting away with no mic. On some songs, I swear if you listen closely, you can even hear some vocals amongst the guitars. :D

Oh yeah... Martin takes care of Joe Holmes' Jose modded Marshalls too so I am sure that the guy knows his stuff.

Thanks all..

So a lot of you are saying dave friedamn. Call me ignorant, but I do not know much about him. I went to the RacjK Systems website but there was not alowt of info. I suppose I ought to call him. I was leaning towards Soldano. They are nearby and I have always loved the SLO. Maybe Ed D. or David Simpson can chime in. I think they both have owned or played a Soldano Modded superlead. if I remember correct, Ed D raved about that amp.

Any specifics on Dave f or his mods that I can chew on for the eve.?

Thanks,

dave is pretty darn talented and has been under the hood of eddie vh's rig and lynch as well, so you are probably in good hands for those tones!
here is a circuit collaboration he has done with rockstah most recently:

play hi fi version, smile, and thank gainy and me later

insanely great brownish sounds!

rockstah and another cat named ralle are th resident brown sound circuit builders on the metro amp forum.
they go round and round tweaking and refining their marshall circuits, and recently dave has been guiding rockstah towards the tone circuit you hear on this clip, and they are talking about offering an actual production amp dedicated to these tones.

here is ralle's contributions:

I'll mod it for you...free. I've got some pretty cool mods that can be a spiralmod, so as you want more mods you just kick your feet together and say "additional mod needed please" and there you have it.

It's called the Universe Mod.

John Suhr

I am not fond of the OD 100, so Suhr is not an option for me ampwise. Love his guitars though!

FJA does some pretty sweet Marshall mods! Jerry is the man!

I had a Suhr modded Marshall and didn't care for it. The way he develops gain is very unique, very saturated, kind of coarse and boomy in the low end. You could get a pretty cool lead tone out of it that worked well in certain situations, but the rythym tone was terrible, like you were on the neck pickup all the time.

Having said that, I personally would have reservations about sending an amp to Martin Golub, only because he and Suhr worked closely together for years and most likely do similar, if not the same mods.

Not to say either one couldn't do a great job if they knew exactly what you wanted though.
