My Floyd fan days are few and far between these days. First and foremost, I like to Drop-D on the fly, and don't think the D-tuna is worth a shit.

I'm looking real hard at a So-Cal that came up at a great price, and I dig it. Especially with Duncan Distortions. Is it worth it to install a tremol-no to get around the Floyd issue? It adds to the price, however.

I'm having a hard time finding a San Dimas hardtail. I don't like the fancy topped ones, don't like the satin finish older model, and all the new ones have gold hardware? Plus, I'd have to settle for JB/59, (which might not be so bad)...

Just use wood block. I had an experience with tremol-no. But, it wasn't stable as I wanted.

I installed a wood block in one of mine. You just have to fit it to size and make sure your trem is level to the body.

Stop being a puss and play that Floyd!

Can't Drop-D.
Sure you can. I play drop D all the time. Just gotta get that fine tuner screwed down when tuning to E.

i don't like the tremol-no setups. I buy brass trem stops from an ebay seller named hoockey. he has badass top quality stuff !

I love floyds, apart from when they move at all. I guess all I really like are the fine tuners.

I have a real old chunk of mahogany from an old table that is probably from the 50’s or something, I just cut off slices with a miter saw that will fit either side of the block. Fit tight so no need for glue or tape or anything, they’re even more stable than my hard tails since they’re locking.

I’ve been using a tremol-no for years with no problems . I have it set up for dive only . Trick is to tighten the thumb screws with pliers . I also use a dtuna which works fine for me you just gotta tweek it with the little set screw every once in a while .

Trem blocker from fu tone

I've done these on several guitars with floyds and any floating trem. On my so-cal, I added one of these and a d-tuna. kicks ass!!!! Love them.

I have blocked Floyd's on a couple So Cal's. I just don't use trem's anymore.

On the other hand, I have a white San Dimas hardtail that I might be looking to move. It's a Mexi version in pretty much new condition. Shoot me a PM if interested.

This x100. Blocked Floyds are my favorite bridge, period. I passed up a lot of cool guitars over the years because they had Floyds before discovering this.

The trem-stopper thing works for me. I've epoxied big brass washers, quarters, and glued in wood blocks and it all works but the trem stopper is cheap and removable.

D-tuna works perfectly.

Agreed.

I play in both Standard D, Drop C and switch back and forth often. There are never any issues, no neck adjustment needed. Can either get the fine tuner at the sweet spot to use that or just undo the locking nut and use the tuner head.

Not sure what the issue would be with the latter. I do it all the time and no issues.

With that said I have had the wood block years ago and that works just fine too. I love the flat/low profile feel of that Floyd bridge so I would have no problem doing that vs buying a hard tail. BUT I still don't see what the issue is to begin with. Just tune down, why can't you do Drop tuning with a Floyd?

For you guys using the trem stopper, do you suppose drilling those pilot holes into the body for the install would affect resale value? Personally I wouldn't care as a buyer, but just weighing the options.

honestly, what I do may be a bit overkill, but I actually buy the threaded inserts for wood from hardware stores. I ditch the screws that come with them, and go with stainless screws. to me the threaded inserts just hold up better, and I got that idea from the peavey hp specials and factory trem stops peavey had installed. its a personal preference obviously and a bit overkill, but I have had the regular screws loosen up over time and cause the trem stop to shift. I don't supposed it would really affect resale value having one installed unless the buyer was just a collector and wanted factory mint pieces
