I've heard this on other great distorted heads and it's a great complimentary mic, but I've yet to hear any clips with Diezels that were deal sealers on buying it. I'm happy with my SM57 tone now but I know the Royer 121 will complete what my ears hear in the room.

Thanks

I use a R121 over a sm57 but thats wit impulses, but i bet other can help you more with realtime micing.

sorry for the bad english :aww: i had no sleep last night

Ive been using impulses now these past 2 weeks. I use the redwirez impulses and the royer 121 impulses are amazing. I tried the sm57 impulses but the R121 fit my taste much better. I guess its something that you should hear youre self. Iff possible to buy both and try out so you can return one afterword would be youre best bet.

What distance from the grille was that E906 placed Slyvren?
And that was the only mic used in that chorus take correct?

Unfortunately, most retailers won't demo the Royer 121, even the ones I've spent thousands with can't do it.

The distance was around 1 inch somewhere around the edge of the dust cap. Correct we only used the e906 for the entire song (check out the end). Most of our songs are recorded that way. The beauty of the e906 is that you don't have to spend 3 hours placing the mic in the best position. We kind of know about where to put it and we never have to second guess or worry about mic position. It just sounds good especially paired with a celestion g12k-100 and a quality preamp.

Tone Monster, thanks for the link. Do you recall the distance the Royer was to the grille?

Gotcha Slyvren, the E906 is a nice option to the usual suspects of guitar mics.

I doubt I'll find anything on the Royer 122 and 122V but I'll keep looking.

122 is where it is at 121 always sounded flat to me, md421 is still my fav for high gain

MD421 and the Royer together or a 57 is the sh!t.

I'm going Royer R-101, check out the clips on Royer, especially the close mic'd. That's better IMO than the R-121 and I like that it'll be able to phase align with the SM57 that close up to the grille.

I'll eventually come back and post some VH4 clips with the 101, 57 and 50/50 combination.
