Who's using Jamup?

I have an old ipad and thought about buying the magnum 44 power amp pedal.

I figured I could use jam up but then also down the road find a really good preamp pedal.

The only thing that confuses me with jam up is the interface talk. Why do I need an interface? Isnt there an adapter to go from ipad to guitar?

The "adapter" is an interface. Well really you can use the ipad in with an adapter or clever wiring but a dedicated interface really improves the sound.

Everyone is wondering this right now. I'm gonna say based on the way that the free jamup and jamup pro are NOT compatible, apple forced them to be two separate apps so the purchases I made in the free version didn't transfer and I had to buy them again. F apple.

That having been said I'm sure it will not be free.

Bias was $20 at launch then $12 when I bought it and $6 for NAMM.

I will pay for it for my phone, I'll just wait a bit this time around and get it for cheap.

The truth is even if it costs another $20 it is totally worth it.

Molten called it, the adapter is a D/A converter that takes the analog signal and transfers it so the app can pick it up. There are cheaper ones; Positive Grid sells one that's only around $20, but no one would recommend it.

Give it a shot; for what it costs, you won't believe your ears. It'll blow anything this side of an Axe or Kemper out of the water, including much higher priced stuff.

Ya, I just got the Positive Grid Jam Plug. It works pretty well. Anyone know if the Alesis io dock will work with an iPhone?

Can I use a powered PA for the power amp?

Can I use my impact twin interface as the converter? (someone said no, but curious as to why not)

How much does it cost for the metal pack? I downloaded the free Jam up app a while back but never got around to looking at it.

Don't see why not....

I'm really not sure, but I don't think so. Most interfaces will work as long as you can go from the interface to the docking port of your phone/iPad, and they're specifically designed for this or have that capability built in. The Jam was built for this exactly, and so was the iRigHD. The Apogee One wasn't built exactly for this, but it's capable of being used this way.

Molten would know more about this.....the JamUp Plug goes from the guitar into the headphone jack, and it's not really the way you want to do it. You CAN, for practice or whatever, but you're not going to want to run a rig out of your headphone port....it'd sound like ass.

Also, if you're going to go into a cab or whatever, you need BIAS....JamUp won't allow you to disable a cab sim, and BIAS will.....so you make an amp in BIAS, disable the cab sim, and then throw it over to JamUp with the cab sim disabled and THEN run it through a cab or PA or whatever. Again, Molten would know more about that.

Metal pack should cost about $10....but BIAS is $20 and you get ALL the amps that are available in JamUp including all the metal amps...so drop the $20 for all of the amps and then you've got usable stuff for when you want to run a full rig with it.

BIAS comes out for iPhone tomorrow if that's what you're using.

Thanks for the reply. I am using the original Ipad. I supposed I will have to wait for tomorrow. I would use to record as well but this would mainly be to use with my 4x12 through my PA for power.

I would start with the $20 adapter from PG and maybe upgrade down the road. But for $40 total ($140 if I buy a used .44 magnum) I think this will be hard to beat.

Yup.....it's not going to sound as good with the adapter from PG, but it should get you started. Good luck.

Just saw this,

The adapters by pg are just that, adapters to route your signal Into and out of the ipad onboard converters, these will sound like ass in comparison to real outboard such as an apogee.

That doesn't mean it won't work just fine, I've been jamming with a band on bass and I don't bring a rig and use the headphone out into the pa, it's been great and all I carry is my bass and ipad.


The dedicated converters sound better but I feel like before I would tell some one to buy a jam or any of the ones that only had good conversion going in to save a few more bucks and get the duet or the one, which both have converters in and out. That will be the best sound.


For practicing and jamming though the jam or even the pg and the headphone out are fine, it still destroys the pods that way.


The one thing is I don't think bias works on ipad 1, pretty sure it's ipad 2 and up.

yea, probably would.

But I do have an I pad 1 and checked PG site and you are correct. BIAS only works with Ipad 2 and up so Jam up is useless for me now. I would only want it to run through my cab, I am happy with the amp sims I use for recording and at home playing purposes.

I decided to say screw buying a cheap amp and to jump on the Jam up and BIAS train. I will be upgrading my phone at the end of the month for the latest Iphone and hooking up the Jam up.

Actually looking forward to it. I will probably be back on the Jam up threads very soon.

You're theory about Apple forcing them doesn't make any sense, when Jamup Pro is a universal app, AmpKit+ is a universal app, GarageBand is a universal app, etc.
