it just has a smoother less digital direct sounding top end now. treble frequency controls are more intuitive. and the mids don't seem as congested nor as brash, although i like mids, so i add some chocolate chewy stuff in many of my tones and eliminate big bass end stuff. i haven't done the red wirez trip yet but maybe that would add the finishing touch on the low end and response.

here are my current crop of patches.

fender strat w/ fletcher landau standard sc's gtr->"real" bb preamp pedal (only used for the violin patch at the end)->axe-fx input->balanced XLR stereo outs to a tech 21 power engine and a mackie MR5 studio monitor, and i threw two mics in front of those.

i can extend the camera mic out with an xlr cable so i put that one in front of the tech 21, and i put a radio shack condenser on the floor in front of the mackie. super ghetto style!
both mic's plug directly into my sony pd150 dv camcorder, so the cam is doing a low budget a/d conversion, but at least the cam has l/r metering and mic input pads so i can control clipping. i take the video into final cut pro hd, pan the audio channels +/- 75% to hear the stereo effects more clearly, and apply a 2:1 compression to try to normalize the volume more. no tricks. it's as close to what i'm hearing in the room as i can get with my stuff.

the first clean fendery one is the one i'm happiest with, meaning it's the one that sounds closest to what i'm wanting in my head. the new univibe controls are great. the new compressors are great. the delays have always been great. i'm addicted to the violin patch. for me the power of the axe is going from nice traditional guitar tones to synthesized tones, marrying the two

Great tones, man! Where's the "Brown Sound" though?

Care to share any of the patches you've customized? I'd like to try 'em!

Where'd you find the violin patch - that was cool!

Steve

Great demo. I liked the clean stuff the best, univibe is very cool as are the volume pedal swells and I really dig the violin patch.
The violin patch is just spooky, I must find time to play with that.

That violin patch is KILLING :D

Is that on the Stanard, or just the Ultra?

the only guitar i have at the moment is this single coil strat which is less than ideal for VH but i pick up my tyler today from pete skermetta at LA sound design...YAY!

i posted on the axe forum that if someone can walk me through the process of safely sending my presets out of my axe i'll do it but preset manager still freaks me out cause i don't totally understand it. i don't want to risk lose my stuff/HOURS of tweaking...just wanna know how to copy and paste a preset to a file i can export

i uploaded the violin patch from a thread on the axe forum, but you also have to upload an acoustic cab IR, both which are freely available on the axe-forum but i forget exactly where..i think on the patch sharing section...

I'll write you up a detailed description of how to do it with th editor in the next day or two when I can sit down at my Axe and computer. It is really easy actually...

i added the bb preamp in front to make it track more sensitively. not perfect as you can hear me munch here and there. requires pinpoint right/left hand coordination and you cannot play more than one note at a time.
and this recording of it sounds a little weird--like a bit too synthetic and driven--versus how is sounds at my listening position. but it freaks me out how much it sounds like a violin. i get lost for extended periods of time and i feel like a more important human being playing with that patch!

:D  [/quote]

not too bad ah braddah? getting there slowly-
next step is i am currently trying to reshape the low ends on my dirty patches for more juice without artificial bass boost bloatiness

I know. I've done it too! You just have to be careful and cognizant of what you are saving and where you are saving it to...

bar far one of the best AXE FX demo's I've heard. Excellent patches and love the Bach Violin Concerto in G Minor theme at the end! Bravo!

I slapped the baby on that Bach thing
that violin patch has zero room for error so it's like hitting a ten ft pothole on the autobahn!
