Great tones there mentoneman . I love 9.02 for cleans and medium gains . Did'nt like it for high gain stuff at all , I went back to 9.00 . I might use cleans 3 times a show so high gain was more important to me .

yeah i hear that a lot, but honestly i had maybe 2-3 high gain tones in my arsenal, including one CAE+, one VH tone, and the holdsworth one in the vid, and they all got better/thicker to my ears, but i still need to mess with the highs some after the change cause they are a bit stuffy.

everyone's right about the overall sound of my dirty patches being a bit overcompressed, but that's patly due to me compressing the track in final cut pro 2:1, and the tech 21 power engine is not as dynamic as say a tube amp or the atomic.

i imagine going sp/dif out to a decent interface and recording program would yield really sweet results!

Loved the cleans and the heavy effects tones. The violin patch was killer. I could have some fun with that one. Gain patches still are lacking something to my ears. They were ok, but not killer. There's this hair or fuzz around the top end that I always seem to pick up on these Axe-fx clips that keeps it from sounding the same as a killer tube amp to my ears.

So is that Eddie's pedal board??

that's exactly what i asked dave F!
"is that eddie van halen's pedalboard?"

he's all nonchalant..."yeah"

"why is it here?"

"building him a new one." there are still cigarette ashes all over the board!

like i've said before, dave friedman is a guitar tone seeker's national treasure!
he works with the CATS. my egnater has never sounded better.

that is one HUGE benefit living in so cal man...rack systems, cae, la sound design, tyler, mojave...i can actually drive to and interface with the masters.

admittedly i'm not the one to turn to for high gain sounds.
i think sam hill or marco sfgoli has that axe market covered. that recent slo clip by jcj? was also great.

but i hear you. i normally try to smooth out the hair by dropping gain/presence and increasing power tube saturation, but i don't exactly feel like this method works as intuitively or as simply on the axe. but i suspect it's because i haven't yet found the right tack at it. there are 3 bajillion ways to skin a cat on the axe.

Nice tones there. I really like the cleans at the begining and the violin was just awesome. This was a very good axe-fx vid.

Well, I like the mid gain tones and Samhill always has gobs of gain. I like your gain levels, but I had the same problem with the Axe standard way back trying to get mid gain tones out of it that didn't have that hair or fuzz around them that I heard. I'm not a tweaker and some of the deeper tweaks like sag, peq and all that were over my head. I just wanted a decent mid gain tone on the ax by setting up a simple amp and cab sim. I never got quite what I wanted so I sold it. The high gain solo tones had some of that fuzziness around the top end too. The axe does keep getting better though. Clips now sound much better than the 4.xx days when I had it.

It's been a whole new ballgame since version 5, the realness just keeps getting more realer and the tears keep falling.

I'm wiping away a single tear as I type

Unfortunately you have travel beyond the treble, bass, and gain settings to tap into the "realness" :2thumbsup:

like the faux bias and faux transformer match and faux B+ capacitance, especially the shunt, if you don't mess with those you won't get realer tones.
This. Shunts at strategic points in the faux signal chain bring the toanz!!!!

Untrue. It was perfect around version 5. It's only gotten perfecter since then.
