shawn was incredible and to this day untouchable, but went from sweet spirited savant genius into bearded smoker recluse middle eastern yodelling gourd drum stuff too much in the end. i still think if someone could take the masters to powers of ten and rerecord some killer drums on it that would be a dream--the drums on that cd sound like pie plates.
before becker got hit with als he was on such an incredible tear
perfect marriage of the classical melody and speed, bluesy vibrato and phrasing, and awesome joyful sense of humor never taking it too seriously--major ingredient which probably helped him land the roth gig. so lame got the rug pulled from under him.
