I'll let you in on another secret. While it's pretty easy to hear subtle differences in tone when rolling tubes, it really doesn't make all that much difference. At least as far as real NOS glass goes. Now speakers, yeah, pretty easy to hear the differences usually, although I would still argue that you can mitigate a lot of differences in tubes and speakers with different combinations of pickups, preamps and amps.

Agree.

when I posted the Casablanca pic it was in response to my first line in the post which is easy to miss: "Still no consensus?" and being shocked, facetiously.

Admittedly I haven't been following this thread too close lately, but has anyone actually suggested wood doesn't matter at all ?

Yes. It's the only reason I even posted in this thread.

The weight of each individual component is up for debate, but I wouldn't have posted if that was all that was being discussed was the extent to which each item matters. It sounds like you and I have similar views on the matter fwiw.

Yup—here in this thread those are the guys with the 5000+ word posts

To be fair, I've been making long posts too - maybe the longest - but it's trying to bring a bit of actual science/engineering into the discussion.

I should have known from the beginning that was pointless here! ;)

This is like how I dial in every amp to sound like me! Sure, my Mesas, Soldanos, and Marshalls all sound different, but by them time I'm done with them, they sound pretty similar with me playing through them.......even when I really wish they'd sound like someone better!

Uh-huhuhuhuh… wood.

Again, I have swapped out ONLY bodies multiple times with dramatically different results. Honestly, I wonder if any of you "wood don't mean nuthin'" guys play the guitar at all.
I would be very interested in hearing a properly executed comparison about this. If you can provide one, then we might have a credible claim about this topic what you're saying. Record the guitar audio+video. Change the body to a different material. Then make sure the guitar is setup EXACTLY THE SAME WAY. Then play the guitar exactly the same way, or as closely the same way as you possibly can. Record that audio+video also. Then post the comparison here. Describe what parameters you made sure were exactly the same and which were different.

Most people on Youtube have botched these types of tests as they have usually not made sure the parameters of the test are as close to identical as possible. Don't make the same mistake.
