Wich bare knuckle to replace my duncan's

Black Dog is far from the JB ....That is my experience in several guitars..It has lots of bite in a vintage way it has this really crunchy angry sound to it the JB does not have. Voicing is world's apart.

As far as BKs go , the Holy Diver and Abraxas have more of a JBish tone going on to my ears. With that being said none of them sound or feel very close to a JB . Bare Knuckles have a different vibe to them compared to Duncans.

I never said the Black Dog sounds like the JB. Maybe you didn't notice the first sentence in that statement which was "There is no Bareknuckle that sounds like a JB." The pickups I listed would "get him in that range." I was first to mention the Abraxas as well. What does the JB have? Lots of mids, high output, tight low end, spiky highs. It's pretty versatile. I've heard the do smooth blues and have heard it do raw aggression. Like I mentioned, people's perception of the JB is fairly split along 2 camps. If we're talking about strong mids, tight low end, rather bright, good output, then you can't rule out the Black Dog.

As you said Bare Knuckles are Bare Knuckles , there are a few models that are in the ballpark but if the O.P. wants a tweaked JB tone its possible placing an order with the Duncan custom shop might be the best bet.

You ever try swapping magnets or creating hybrids? Man there are some kickass combinations you can put together if you swap coils. The JB is a good pickup for that kind of thing.

Someone here posted a clip of a JB with an A2 magnet through a HR25 that sounded absolutely killer. Made me actually consider buying a JB again just to try it with an A2 magnet.

Yeah that's a good idea. At one point I did try different magnets in a stock JB ... I also have a custom shop JB they sent me with a ceramic magnet. I spoke with MJ over there and I basically asked for a JB with better clarity and tighter bass. I still have that pickup, was thinking about selling it since it's sitting here collecting dust. As far as passives go I prefer BK's over anything .

It might be ...However I ordered a custom pickup so they wound it to the description of the tone I wanted to achieve. So its not a stock JB with just a magnet swap it's a different wind. With that being said I like the distortion , along with the JB they are probably my two favorite Duncan's.
